First, a necessary confession: I have read almost three dozen books by Amy Lane, all of which I began with a preternatural prejudice in expectation of pleasure. Having finished ‘Slow Pitch’, once again I can say that I am not disappointed!

A great big huge thank you to the author for not making ‘Shades of Henry’ predictable, nor in any way, shape, or form stale. What in the world am I rambling on about? This is the first book in Ms. Lane’s new series, ‘The Flophouse’, but it is a spin-off from two of her series, ‘Johnnies’ and ‘Fish Out of Water’.

I never dreamed that Amy Lane would write Dane and Clay’s story. I hoped. Oh yes. But I didn’t believe she would mainly because their story coincided, on a timeline anyway, with Mason and Terry’s in ‘Summer Lessons’. There is more than one reason why I’m so happy and grateful that she did write their story.

The previous two installments in this series crossed over with another fabulous novel titled ‘Racing for the Sun’ and my joy knew no bounds. Imagine my excitement when I discovered that ‘Fish on a Bicycle’ was finally – FINALLY – going to introduce Jackson and Ellery to some of the guys from the ‘Johnnies’ series.

‘Paint it Black’ is the long-awaited sequel to ‘Beneath the Stain’, Amy Lane’s angst-ridden, emotionally devastating story about three brothers, their best friends, and the rock band they formed from a desperate need to have something to do in their small town where no one gave a damn.

I love winter. The cold and the snow. Hot chocolate, roaring fire, homemade chowder… all of it. Of course, my liking of that season is predicated on the fact that I don’t have to leave my home very often, and I’m safe and warm at all times. This is not the situation Tevyn and Mallory find themselves in, however.

It gets more and more difficult to review Amy Lane’s books because it seems as if each drama-filled, angst-ridden one rips my heart apart, and then puts it back together in a whole new way. The difficulty lies in not repeating my words of praise, of enthusiasm, and my love of her written words.

I have been reading some pretty heavy angst and pain recently so I knew it was time to break out Amy Lane for lighthearted romance. What? Amy Lane? Lighthearted? Isn't she the one that has done you in with the emotional drama?
