Book Review

Have you ever had the feeling that you’re just stumbling through life, not really sure which way is forward and which is back and hoping for someone to show you the way? The two main characters in this story go through exactly that experience – only across more than one life. They have a lesson to learn and until they do, there is no way out. Reminiscent of Groundhog Day, a 1993 movie directed by Harold Ramis, we actually get to watch Nicholas and Tibbs live the crucial parts of their lives - again and again and again.

Nicholas is the narrator and it is mainly his thought process we follow. He begins as a total coward who isn’t even aware of doing anything wrong by not standing up for the man he loves. Or, at least, is drawn to in every life. His gradual realization that more may be going on is what provides the common thread.

I’ll admit it: this story is weird and confusing and it took me quite a while to figure it out. BUT there is a reason for this, and the message behind it, that of hope, couldn’t be clearer. I did like watching the small changes that gradually creep in as the main characters begin to learn. If you like slightly weird temporal twists, if the idea of second (and third, etc.) chances intrigues you, and if you enjoy comparing situations that look the same but aren’t then you will probably like this story.
