Book Blurb

Glenn Holloway’s predictable life ended the day he confessed his homosexuality to his family. As if that wasn’t enough, he then poured salt in the wound by walking away from the ranch he’d grown up on, to open the restaurant he’d always dreamed of. Without support from his father and brother, and too proud to accept assistance from anyone else, he had to start from scratch. Over time things worked out: Glenn successfully built a strong business, created a new home, and forged a life he could be proud of.

Despite his success, his estrangement from the Holloways is still a sore spot he can’t quite heal, and a called-in favor becomes Glenn’s worst nightmare. Caught in a promise, Glenn returns to his roots to deal with Rand Holloway and comes face-to-face with Mac Gentry, a man far too appealing for Glenn’s own good. It could all lead to disaster—disaster for his tenuous reconnection with his family and for the desire he didn’t know he held in his heart.

Book Review

As can be expected, I was so excited when I found out that Mary Calmes was having the books in her 'Timing' series re-released. Well, you should have been here when I discovered she'd written a THIRD never-before-released book about Glenn, Rand's half brother. There was screaming and some serious jumping up and down. I might have hyperventilated a little. I have been in love with this series and its characters for years and I couldn't wait to get my grabby fingers on 'When the Dust Settles'.

One of the major things I love about series that follow the same people - be they friends, family, or a combination - is that I get to revisit my favorite characters and I always feel like I'm home. I was so proud at the beginning of this story to see how much further Rand, Stef, and the Red Diamond have come. I was thrilled to see their little boy and I was so hoping that Glenn and Rand could work through their issues. More Glenn really than Rand.

"It wasn’t even his fault, really; it was mostly that Rand was larger than life and everything he did turned to gold, making it damned difficult to ever measure up to him."

It's been two years and Glenn's feelings about his family and Rand haven't changed much. He's still carrying a pretty big chip on his shoulder, although to be fair, his dad promised him start-up money to open his restaurant and then backed out, plus he'd just found out that Rand wasn't his annoying cousin but his annoying half brother, so Glenn left his dad's ranch and worked really hard to make his dream come true. He has The Bronc now which is doing very well and he's made a new family out of his employees most of whom he's helped in one way or another. Glenn's just as amazing as Rand except he doesn't see it.

Mac and Glenn are sizzling together, no doubt about it. On the ride moving the cattle more than one thing gets resolved and I was so happy to see it. Glenn finally gets a notion that Rand and Zach don’t care that he no longer wants to be a cowboy, they want him to live on the Red so they can all be a family. Good for Glenn that he was the first to make the move to bury the hatchet. And Mac? Once those two finally get naked - and I don't just mean nude - quite a few preconceived ideas are put to rest. Plus, they steamed up my glasses!

I loved this book! I especially loved the relationship Glenn has with his staff and how much of a family they are! I'm a die-hard fan but I do have one little, teeny, tiny complaint… Mary, couldn't it be longer? Oh, I could read about these people for hours and hours. Thank you for writing Glenn's story. It was everything I hoped it would be.
