Book Blurb

Jack Callahan is in a financial bind, so when Australian novelist Bruce Logan offers him a small fortune to marry him so Bruce can get his green card, Jack agrees. The two men know enough about each other to pull off the immigration interview at Homeland Security and they can happily share an apartment in LA. Until Bruce establishes legal residency.

The problem is that Jack develops feelings for Bruce and is torn when his new husband starts dating another man. Not only that, but Bruce's expected book royalties fall short of his expectations. He can't pay Jack and it seems that he's in love with his new man. Jack however, finds his lengthy solitude has been broken and his feelings for Bruce only deepen. Can the two married men actually find wedded bliss?

Book Review

This is a great story that takes the idea of marrying for money and puts it into a modern context. I really liked the idea of two men looking for solutions to a problem and finding, instead, that marriage offers more than that. The way the story is written, with a combination of humor and a deep understanding of how love develops, made this such a joy to read. The secondary characters all had quirky traits that made me laugh out loud in places, adding to the richness of the story.

Jack, a casting agent in financial trouble, starts out with a very rational view of the situation. All he wants is a solution to his problem - and the potential partner not to be crazy. I thought his past adventures in trying to find and select a suitable man were hilarious. Based on what he's been through, his reluctance is totally believable. I loved his gradual change as he falls in love, as well as all the little details (like his issues with his hair) that make him totally real.

Bruce, a novelist who wants to stay in the US and has forgotten to renew his visa, is another great character. He has some of the same issues about finding a partner as Jack (in terms of needing to weed out the 'crazies'), but is more focused on his visa issue. We get deep insights into his character, the part he presents to the outside world, through his blogs. I absolutely adored those (poor Jack has more issues with accepting them).

In short, this is a fun, quick read with brilliant character details that make the people in this book real enough to touch them. The developing love interest is as interesting as the way Jack and Bruce deal with the obstacles (self-made and otherwise) that are thrown at them. Very, very entertaining!
