Book Blurb

Cecil Montgomery took one look at Manuel Lopez and knew he wanted the handsome Marine in his life. Convincing Manny of that might be harder than anything Cecil has ever faced before, especially when fate seems determined to keep them apart.

After one night of passion in the arms of Cecil Montgomery, Manuel Lopez runs in the other direction. Besides the fact that Cecil is so gorgeous he makes Manny ache, the man is rich, and Manny has a deep hatred of anyone with money, a hatred that goes back nearly twenty years.

When confronted by the man that started it all, Manny realizes he might have made a mistake, but by then, it’s too late. Cecil wants nothing to do with him. Worse yet, Cecil’s life is in danger and Manny and his fellow Marines might not even be able to save him.

Book Review

The next member of the team of former Marines who populate this series is Manny, and the issues he and the man who falls for him, Cecil, have to overcome range from personal issues all the way to serious health problems and even assassination attempts. At each twist and turn I held my breath, expecting disaster to happen – and it does, quite frequently. As a result this is an action-packed story with more than one revelation and a very hard-won happy ending.

Cecil has all the money in the world, but he is not happy. His loneliness finally seems over when he meets Manny, but the former Marine runs from him, then ignores him, and is clearly not as interested as Cecil hopes. Disappointed yet again, Cecil is ready to give up, and, to top it all off, he finds out he only has a very limited time to live.

Manny may be a big, strong Marine, but he has an Achilles heel caused by his past that means he cannot trust men with money. And Cecil, as attracted as Manny is to the guy, seems to fit the “mold” perfectly. So Manny runs. And by the time he discovers he may have been wrong, Cecil is in a critical state, both their lives are in danger, and whoever is after one or both of them seems more determined than ever.

Cecil and Manny have an extremely tough time of it, even once they start working on their personal issues. Things only ever look up for the briefest time before the next catastrophe hits, and the story certainly kept my attention as a result. Most of the characters from earlier volumes are back as well, and I loved seeing how they were doing.

If you like the ‘Special Operations’ series with its stories about former Marines and the men they fall in love with, if you enjoy struggling relationships interrupted by assassination attempts, and if you're looking for a suspenseful read with plenty of mystery, action, and very loving  man-on-man action, then you will probably like this novella.
