Love is a precious thing...

When James Dyllon finds an explicit card on his desk he doesn’t know what to think. His hot as Hades boss has never given him the slightest indication that he returns James’ affections, so this card can’t be from him. Two male lovers entwined—someone is having a laugh at his expense.

George MacKenzie is done lusting after James from afar. A new year brings with it the opportunity for change and George is tired of hiding. Since taking over the company after his father fell ill, he is finally in a position to act on his feelings, and he wants James. The card might be a feeble attempt, but at least James does not seem disinterested.

Together they will be able to weather anything, as long as he can convince James that he really does want forever.

Book Review

As the title hints, if you’re looking for a short, hot office romance, this is your book. Using every possible trope about such assignations I can think of, the author has done a great job at making ‘Under His Boss’ as fun and enjoyable as it is hot. The barely restrained, but limited-due-to-circumstances passion jumps off the page from the beginning, and I had a wonderful time following James, the pining employee, and George, the restrained-but-passionate CEO through their adventures.

James has been ogling his new boss from afar for a few months now, but has kept his relationship professional. Then he finds a rather unexpected card on is desk on New Year’s Eve, one that depicts two naked men embracing, with a message announcing George’s interest. While he wants to jump at the opportunity, or rather pounce on George, there are still the rumors of the man’s engagement, a bunch of issues from the past, some of them linked to George’s father, and propriety to stop him. James only wishes he were less principled!

George is in a tough situation. Not just because he is way more interested in James than a boss should be in his office manager. But also because his father left the company in a mess before he  retired for health reasons, made an alliance with another company whose CEO’s daughter George is now supposedly marrying, and George has never come out. Once he assures himself that James is interested, he opens up about the company’s continuing financial issues, and they manage to have a conversation that only deepens their attraction. Way to go, George!

If you’re looking for action-packed adventure or angsty, hopeless romance, this isn’t it. But if you want a straightforward, passionate office romance with more heat than should fit into so few pages, give this one a try. It’s entertaining, has just enough substance to make it work, and the hot man-on-man action might just leave you panting for more.
