A twist of fate leaves Bet and her daughter Kylie stranded at the entrance of the home of Alex Graves, as she flees the control of an abusive husband.
When custom –homebuilder Alex arrives to find steam boiling from Bet’s car and a beautiful child asleep in the passenger seat, her heart goes out to them.
Alex offers shelter to the pair setting off a chain of events that bring both mother and daughter close to her heart and danger to her door.
A heartwarming story of true love that will keep you smiling long after you’ve finished the book.
This story is really sweet. The initial encounter left me with some questions, but that faded fairly quickly as the two women and the precocious child connect beautifully and won my heart big time. It was also delightfully refreshing that a little town in the deep South seemed to have no issues or problems with a key resident being a lesbian. In fact, what really elevated the sweetness level, was the total absence of prejudice. Add a completely adorable pooch companion with whom the child bonds with instantaneously and I was smiling from ear to ear. So, here it is and it should happen as often as possibly that love at nearly first sight is accepted by friends, coworkers, and townsfolk alike. What difference should it really make that the lovers are two women? Simply beautiful!
Alex has followed in her father's footsteps by taking over his business but she was able to complete her college degree which was an important wish her father had for her. She graduated top of her class from Georgia Tech and along with her love of building instilled in her by her father, she has a thriving company building custom homes in the mountains surrounding her home. The little town nearby proudly states it is 150 miles from Atlanta, Georgia. Alex is just a peach and clearly a knight in shining armor! She certainly sounds like the best boss I have heard of plus she is extraordinarily generous and openhearted to the stranded mother and daughter combo she stumbles upon at the foot of her driveway on a Friday afternoon. Oh, the world could use a gazillion additional Alex type women. Magnificent!
Bet is for all intents and purposes on the *lam* from her abusive husband. She and her four-year-old daughter, soon to be five, snuck out while he was in an enhanced alcoholic stupor, packing as much as possible into her *getaway* car. Bet's daughter, Kylie, may be extraordinary, but Kylie also shows all the earmarks of being beautifully raised in spite of the abusive father element in her early years. That is all to be credited to Bet I believe. Bet is also brimming over with exceptional attributes and to my mind magnetically and magically drew the incredible guardian angel in the form of Alex to her side. However, she gives back to Alex in ways I do not even think she was aware she could accomplish. These two women need to be enshrined somewhere so their combined light could heal the planet. I laughed, loved, and cried with both them and feel truly honored to have made their acquaintance. Astounding!
I remember how much I enjoyed Ali Spooner's Bailey's Run and I wanted to move to that community at the time. Now, I would love to live near Alex's *Graves Cove* which initially just had one woman and one dog. I recommend this book for anyone who would love to feel really good about life. Unquestionably splendid!
