Book Review

'Truth be Told' is the story of Patrick, a lawyer who desperately wants love but cannot find his way out of the closet, and Liam, the owner of a gay club who has been out for years and has trouble dealing with Patrick's reluctance and fear. Both men are attracted to each other, and fit really well together, but their views of the future, in terms of the openness about their relationship, are somewhat different.

Patrick has a lot of fear to overcome before he can truly be free. He just knows his family will react badly, but on the other hand, once he meets Liam and wants more, he realizes he cannot keep hiding. That final step is still very hard to take, and he is only really jolted into it once Liam gives up and leaves him. Luckily, his parents start working toward a new understanding once Patrick gives them no choice, and the only thing that remains, is for Patrick to win back Liam. Not as easy as it sounds…

Liam knows what he wants, both in bed and out, He slowly introduces Patrick to the joys of bottoming, but never pushes too hard. He is versatile enough to let Patrick take the lead on occasion, and I think that is part of why Patrick finds it pretty easy to explore his more submissive side in the beginning. Later on, Liam's masterful dominance and lead are all Patrick needs to convince him. The one thing Liam cannot make easier for Patrick is how to deal with the man's family. He has to step back to make clear how serious he is about wanting everyone to know about them being a couple, and it truly hurts him to do it. But he sees no other choice, so he bites the bullet.

If you like stories about men finding love but encountering a few self-made hurdles along the way, if you enjoy reading about the process of coming out to a family who is less than enthusiastic about "suddenly" realizing one of them is gay, and if you're looking for a read that is spicy on top of all of that, the you will probably like this short story.
