Smith is a creature born and bred in a lab, an alpha wolfhound. He and his pack have since escaped their prison, and are now hiding in plain sight among the humans...until he finds his mate.
Omega wolfhounds should not exist. They were killed whenever they were discovered in the labs. Teddy is very much real, however, and to keep the peace between Teddy's pack and his own, Smith willingly offers himself so he can be close to his other half, and protect him from the dangers of the world.
Teddy loves and fears his mate. The pack Smith came from wanted him and his friends dead, but Smith's scent calls to Teddy in all the right ways. He will have to decide whether he can be selfish and keep his mate, or send him back to his better life, risking Teddy's own life in the process, as mates were not meant to be apart for long...
After the shock of having another pack appear near Max’s carefully guarded location, and Smith deciding to go with them as a hostage to save Todd and Colten (two omega mates of Max’s pack), the events in this third book of the ‘Rogue Wolfhounds’ series go from bad to worse. Smith knows he is mated to Teddy, and wants to protect the omega werewolfhound – not a creature who is even supposed to exist since the human scientists killed every one they found. But Logan’s pack (all five of them) don’t have a base and are on the run, so nowhere is safe for them at all. Action-packed and with several more revelations, this third volume is definitely a worthy addition.
Smith may have planned to pretend loyalty to Logan so he can get Teddy to safety at some point soon, but it isn’t as easy as he thought. For one thing, Logan is not stupid and has figured him out. For another, Teddy doesn’t want to leave the werewolfhounds he sees as his family behind, and even after Smith proves himself, the situation is not much better. Logan can’t trust Max even though Max was only trying to be careful, and Smith has no way of convincing Logan that joining forces is the right thing to do. But Smith is determined to give Teddy a better, safer life, and he is not one to give up easily – or at all.
Teddy needs to mate with Smith, and he has no fear of doing so when Logan finally allows it. Even the somewhat painful mating bite can’t stop Teddy from enjoying Smith’s attentions. Deep down though, Teddy believes that Smith will resent him for taking him away from what – to Teddy – looks like a life of luxury. Not that any of his efforts work, and he can’t even feel sorry for that. He is definitely falling for Smith and the thought of being separated (if it were even physically possible) scares Teddy deeply. So even when circumstances force Logan to consider returning to Max’s pack, Teddy is happy for Smith but still afraid it won’t end well for Logan, Griffin, Hyde, or Scott.
If you like the idea of rival packs needing to consider cooperation despite not wanting to work together, if you want to see how Teddy and Smith work to deal with their problems, and if you’re looking for a read that is full of angst, anger, suspicion, and hot action between mates, then you will probably like this novella.
