Book Review

This is a story about two men who would ordinarily consider each other enemies. There is no love lost between the dark fae, Saul’s people, and werewolves, Keeran’s species. But to their surprise they find out, as different as they may be, they have more in common than either of them would have thought. Add Saul’s compassion for Keeran when the wolf is wounded in a cruel trap, and Keeran’s consideration for Saul, once he understands the fae only wants to help, and you’ve got the beginning of an interesting friendship – and more.

Keeran has lost his entire pack. The men and children are murdered, the women gone, and their camp is a heap of smoking debris. And Keeran doesn’t even know who is to blame, but he wants revenge. In his grief he doesn’t watch where he is going, and is rescued by Saul, who turns out to be a dark fae.  It doesn’t take Keeran long to realize working with the attractive stranger makes more sense than going it alone, especially since Saul knows exactly who is behind the cowardly attack.

Saul has been alone for a very long time. Rejected by his people, he escaped certain death after being cruelly tortured. He lives alone in the middle of the forest in a castle that is being restored, and he never expected to find someone to stay with him, who understands him and might accept him as a partner. As horrible as his background is, it didn’t destroy his will to survive, or his willingness to help others. Quite admirable!

If you like stories about men who are brought together by need, but stay together because they fall for each other, and if you enjoy reading about the darker side of being a supernatural, you will probably like this short story.
