William Steele has been captured after going out on a hunting mission. His assignment was to find Jules Scarlet, a man he'd once considered a brother, and then kill him. Effectively putting him out of his misery for being cursed by the alpha of the forest.
The wolves take him, however, and when William sees Julian, the man appears in perfect health and very happy with his new mate. All the while, another wolf, Leofrick, is showing a lot of interest in William's well being. William can't help that he's interested and finds Leo to be very attractive, even with the three thick claw mark scars running down his face.
William is forced to confront everything he's ever known as he becomes closer and closer with Leo and becomes the man's mate. But when Leo is captured, William must pretend to still be a hunter in order to keep him alive, putting his and Leo's fragile new relationship in danger.
As suspected (and hoped), this third volume of the ‘Not-So-Lone Wolf’ series is about William, the man who was Jules’s adopted brother for years, and Leo, the wolf guard who showed clear signs of interest in William at the end of book two. With William being a hunter and believing all wolves are demons, this is not an easy fit and the two men have to face more than one obstacle in their struggle to become mates.
William was captured and interrogated by Leo’s pack, and is shocked how much Jules seems to like staying with the wolves. He cannot deny that he is attracted to Leo, but is totally unsure about what to do. And when they just seem to be finding a new balance, hunters attack them while out fishing and William scrambles to save all of their lives.
Leo knows William is his mate, and even though he struggles with having fallen for a human, never mind a hunter, he cannot help himself. So when William seems to betray him at the first opportunity he is hurt. Not that it stops him from standing by his mate, whatever the consequences, but it makes things a lot more difficult.
If you like enemies having to deal with being mates, if two men who have to bridge a cultural gap between them if they ever want to become a couple sound interesting, and if you’re looking for a read that is full of emotional turmoil and tough action, then you will probably like this novella.
