Kayleigh Gibbs’s marriage falls apart, prompting her to flee with her daughter across the country for a new life. She opens her own veterinary practice, and eventually they move into an old, secluded farmhouse in Hoekwil.
At her best friend’s housewarming party Kayleigh meets the beautiful and enchanting Rebecca Steward. Rebecca is instantly drawn to Kayleigh but is still recovering from a breakup—her girlfriend left her for a man. Afraid of a repeat performance with Kayleigh, she refuses to acknowledge her growing feelings, preferring instead to develop a platonic friendship.
When inexplicable things start happening in the farmhouse, a terrified Kayleigh turns to Rebecca for reassurance. As the women try to unravel the mystery of the house, Kayleigh finds herself developing feelings for Rebecca. Despite her best intentions, Rebecca discovers she is falling in love with Kayleigh.
Will Rebecca and Kayleigh be able to not only figure out the strange happenings at the house but their own insecurities? Can the past tear them apart and keep reign over the house or will love conquer the presence?
This book presents two incredibly fascinating and downright delicious story lines. Primary is the amazing initial encounter, followed by the delightful friendship interconnections, moving toward a really hot and steamy consummation proceeding along a path I have never read before. Supporting this are flashbacks from a century ago about another couple battling social exile and entrenched tradition yet so completely in love. Tense, intricate, and wondrous!
Kayleigh Gibbs kind of gets to re-invent herself, while trying to stay sane in her obviously haunted new home along with her daughter Sarah, who is almost always uppermost in Kayleigh's mind. Kayleigh's journey is simply galvanizing and definitely multidimensional. She recently relocated to the Sedgefield area in South Africa following a painful divorce precipitated by her husband's infidelity. However, Kayleigh is a deft survivor and the most extraordinary part of her re-illumination is an all-encompassing new love that blossoms before me. Kayleigh's growth and redirection is inarguably something I savored, especially the highlights and undercurrents that envelop her relationship with Rebecca. Deliriously enchanting!
Rebecca Steward has also relocated to the Sedgefield area escaping a painful infidelity. Via a felicitous serendipity, a couple celebrating their new home is friends to both Rebecca and Kayleigh. So they get to meet initially at this housewarming. Their very first encounter shares a priceless duplication of what I would have to call an emphatic *hands off* warning. I chuckled repeatedly as I remembered this intro between Rebecca and Kayleigh as they became closer as friends and so much more. Part of Rebecca's enticing appeal is her comfort within her own skin, her total professionalism, and the depths to which her friendship and love embraces those who are important to her. Kayleigh is impressive, but Rebecca is not only provocative, insightful, and highly professional, but love's real deal. I found myself smitten with Rebecca right from the start. Additionally, her resilience is thoroughly enjoyable along with her response when she faces the challenges of Kaleigh's haunted residence. Spectacular!
The supporting historical narrative adds a splendid link and insight as tension builds and momentum heightens. Let me not fail to include my solid appreciation for the beautiful use of humor and the incredible counterpoint from life's foibles. I unequivocally recommend this book. Magnificent!
