Book Blurb

Their pirate vessel destroyed, Captain Amery White, ship's surgeon Gavin Watson, and quartermaster Quinn Davies are left without a livelihood or a home. The three men have served together since they were old enough to put to sea, sharing hardships and comfort until Amery and Gavin formalized their union with a matelotage—the pirate equivalent of a marriage contract.

Now they’ve been offered a letter of marque and a fine English galleon with enough speed and firepower to catch and capture any ship in the Caribbean. But their mission brings back memories long buried and puts a strain on Amery and Gavin’s relationship, especially when the Silver Queen captures a Spanish slave ship, bringing the very young, very beautiful, and very abused Eliodoro to their crew.

Quinn finds himself torn between the love he’s always had for his friends and his desire for their new crew member. When secrets from the past come to light and cause a rift between Amery and Gavin, Quinn will have to choose between substituting for Gavin’s true love and becoming the center of Eliodoro’s world.

Book Review

Love comes to us in many forms. It isn't easy to discern and is even harder to maintain; yet, to love and be loved is one of our greatest desires. In 'The Matelot' by Ariel Tachna we meet four men--Amery, Gavin, Quinn, and Eliodoro whom we follow on their journey to win their hearts' desires.

Ariel does an excellent job portraying each man's struggle as he faces the truth about himself and accepts the fact that changes need to be made. In order to have a good relationship, each of them has to reach a point where he can meet the other on equal ground. They have to be truthful with themselves, face their fears, acknowledge and declare their feelings, and then do whatever is necessary to reconcile their relationships.

One of my favorite scenes is Quinn and Eliodoro's second first time. I appreciated the slow and deliberate pace emphasizing each touch, each breath, each moan, which very effectively illustrated the gentleness and consideration encompassing Quinn's lovemaking. It was one of the most sensual scenes I've ever read.

'The Matelot' is a fascinating trip into the days of pirates and their way of life and love. Ariel portrays the time period with accuracy and interest. 'The Matelot' is a passionate love story about four unique men in their exploration of love. If you like historical fiction along with a good romance then you will enjoy 'The Matelot'.
