Book Blurb

In the City of Angels, K9 police officer Chris Bergstrom keeps herself safe by following her instincts. Across town, Sarah Pullman also lives by her instincts since that horrible day when her life was almost snuffed out. When they meet, their attraction is stronger than anything they've ever experienced. But Chris's black-and-white world view clashes with Sarah's all gray world of identity confusion and distrust. They'll need more than their gut feelings to navigate the fragile relationship they so intensely desire. Set against the turbulent backdrop of Los Angeles during fire season, Chris and Sarah struggle with the realities of their pasts and the necessity of defying their long-standing beliefs. In order to overcome their conflicts, they will have to step out of their self-imposed cocoons, take a real look at themselves, and find the strength to walk through the fire.

Book Review

This book is simply magnificent. One of those stories I nearly finished in one sitting. It hits every note in such a perfect stride that between the laughter, the tears, the anguish, and the climactic moments, I was nearly totally drained and then reborn! Set in Los Angeles during one of its worst fire seasons, the toll that crisis added left the crazies wackier and the general population emotionally burned-out. The pearl of great price is most assuredly the astounding love story that in fairly short order turned intense. I totally recommend you stay the course.  I truly feel you won't be disappointed.

Chris Bergstrom is a K9 officer who often pulls ten hour shifts along with partner Abel, a seventy-five pound Belgian Malinois or sheep dog being preferential K9 officer material. Chris grew up in a military family and she gets kidded by her girlfriend as probably never leaving the house without her bed being made military style. Trying continually to get her father's approval, she pushes herself to the limit and beyond time and time again. That leaves her subject to some classically horrific collapses sending her into periodic incredibly dark times. Yet, her passion for what is right, her truly loving nature, and near blinding belief in the black and white nature of life generally serves her well. I loved Chris!

She and Chris first meet in a Whole Foods market; it is one of the most beautiful starting points for a potentially rich relationship. The blackberries tasted good, too. Sarah and Chris bond quickly Sarah Pullman is a bit of a lost rich girl but with amazing depths and a captivating style. When, even though they are very different temperamentally and have dramatically varied backgrounds. One point in common is that Sarah hints at secrets and her own tangles with internal bleakness. However, she seems much less tightly wrapped than Chris. Sarah is really classy in spite of her family. Sarah does a great deal of volunteer work but her passion finds her mainly at the Angeles Crest Wildlife Refuge. I loved Sarah, too!

The highs and the lows...the soaring and the plummeting that the lovers go through is so dramatically articulated and gloriously interwoven with the tensions and difficulties besetting Los Angeles and its environs. The police scenes, the priceless moments at the refuge, the nearly unbelievable Fathers Day celebrations, the super sexy bedroom activities, plus many more elements made this book so bountiful, so top-notch, and so noteworthy. This extraordinary reading experience gets my highest applause and a major thumbs-up!
