Book Review

Sometimes best friends are more than they seem – and when it gets to the point where those feelings cross into love, things can get complicated. In this story, they are super complicated. Toby loves Hayden, but Hayden’s father would disown him if he came out, so Hayden marries Toby’s sister. Yeah, I know, not the brightest idea. In Hayden’s head it may all make sense when he makes the decision, since he can still be close to Toby this way. Honestly, I wanted to shake him until he realizes how selfish and plain dumb that is.

Toby is a nice guy, so he quietly suffers through five years of seeing Hayden all the time but never being able to touch him. The pain he goes through is hard to imagine. He also loves his sister, so he is truly stuck between a rock and a hard place. Then his sister gets pregnant, disaster strikes right after the baby is born, and things get worse. Except they also get better, but everyone is in too much pain and grief and has a bad conscience before they have even done anything.

If you like moral dilemmas, if two me fighting their conscience, their feelings, and their attraction for each other sounds like an interesting story, and if you’re looking for a read full of intense emotions and an explosive ending, then you might like this short story.
