Book Blurb
Now living in Los Angeles with former navy SEAL Nick Reno, artist Perry Foster comes to the rescue of elderly and eccentric Horace Daly, the legendary film star of such horror classics as Why Won’t You Die, My Darling?
Horace owns the famous, but now run-down, Hollywood hotel Angels Rest, rumored to be haunted. But as far as Perry can tell, the scariest thing about Angels Rest is the cast of crazy tenants--one of whom seems determined to bring down the final curtain on Horace--and anyone else who gets in the way.
Book Review
For one of the few times in my life I was really happy to discover a book that had already been out for a number of years because the sequel was being released within six months of my review of book one. That is where I found myself when I read ‘The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks’ and discovered the adventures of painter, Perry, and his hunky ex-Navy SEAL lover, Nick. Needless to say, I’ve been eagerly anticipating this sequel as I can only imagine the derring-dos to come.
It has been ten months since the adventure that brought Perry and Nick together, and now they’re living in LA. Perry continues to paint, have shows, and sell in galleries, and Nick is now a PI in a firm although as the low man on the totem pole Nick gets all the crappy out-of-town and late-night jobs which keeps him and Perry from being together every day. Neither man is particularly happy about that part of their new life but they make the most of it although Nick tends to worry about Perry when he is out of town. For good reason, as Nick’s latest job brings him home to discover Perry having gone to the rescue of an elderly man and running into three attackers dressed in black with skull masks and wooden swords. Perry, being Perry, ends up agreeing to spend the weekend at Horace’s old hotel/home as the elderly man is very scared that someone is trying to kill him. Horace is an actor known for his work in old horror movies and he is quite dramatic. (Cue Nick’s eye roll.)
I was not disappointed in the zaniness of the tenants who reside at Angel’s Rest and the wackiness began immediately from the forty-year-old alligator who kept getting into the house to the dead body that appeared. Perry and Nick do the best they can to try to figure out what’s truly going on but between Horace’s certainty of the identity of the culprit, the only living relative of Horace’s determined to undermine his credibility and convince everyone he’s crazy, and the relationships they discover between certain tenants… well, there is much to delve through to attempt to determine just who might be responsible for all of Horace’s troubles.
‘The Ghost Had an Early Check-Out’ is witty, charming, intriguing, sexy, and a whole lot of fun to read. I truly hope the author will continue in this world because Perry and Nick are wonderful characters, and in my opinion, they still have some trouble to stir up. Thank you, Josh, for returning to this world!
