Book Blurb

A solitary Irish detective and a reclusive Scottish academician … hardly a match made in heaven. Blond and dark, yin and yang, perhaps even angel and devil.

In fact, sometimes Thomas Fitzgerald wonders whether the mysterious Burns is a figment of his lonely nights, a creature evolved from an idealized portrait of the poet Robert Burns.

Real or not, the university teacher-curator teams up with him to solve a murder involving a Celtic burial site and a voice from Scotland’s bloody past.

Join two unusual sleuths at the ancient mound called “The Dundee Law” as two men merge their talents, and much more.

Book Review

This riveting and wholly romantic sequel to ‘Burns Too Deep’ emphasizes the “S” in smart, sexy, and sensual, which is entirely fitting given that book’s tantalizing but teasing end. Irish detective Thomas Fitzgerald and his enigmatic stranded Scotsman, Burns, rekindle the flames of their passion while solving a most mysterious murder. In a word? HOT!

I wasn’t expecting a sequel for ‘Burns Too Deep’, mostly because I loved how that book’s end left me to fill my imagination with the events to come. But I am oh-so-glad the author penned this story, for it reaches further into the psyches of lead characters Fitz and Burns and made me love this charismatic pair even more. Written in mixed point-of-view, both men have an opportunity to “voice” their inner demons. It was wonderful to experience their fears and expectations regarding their fledgling relationship and then watch those insecurities become overwhelmed by the passion that explodes between them.

Kudos to Erin O’Quinn for bringing out the M in masculine with her great attention to detail and exquisite nuance in how these two ordinary-extraordinary men express themselves. I adored how the awakening of Thomas’s passion brought on a sudden need to furnish his living space and yet how he does so is so “like a man.” It really had me chuckling. He’ll have no second career as an interior decorator for sure. There are lots of these delightfully amusing moments to read alongside the tender and tough as each man tries to have his cake and eat it too while solving the story’s puzzling crime.

The language of the story is joyous and fluid; the author’s inventive ways of expressing passion lingering in my mind like a sweetmeat melts on one’s tongue. I also enjoyed the fascinating tidbits about the ancient burial site of the book’s namesake that are woven throughout the story and grounded the events in authenticity. I felt present in Scotland with thistle-scented winds whipping around me. But it is the relationship between Fitz and Burns, two skilled, gorgeous, but lost-in-matters-of-love men, that makes this book a scorcher of a romance and one not to be missed. I will say it again…HOT!

Thank you, Erin O’Quinn, for this scintillating and lush sequel…hearts will flutter and flame.

“Steam, Flame, Fire = YES!”
