Dragon warrior Halvard is a gorgeous, love ‘em and leave ‘em type of guy. It’s better that way. No one ever lasts—not with his dangerous lifestyle of smuggling goods through space and avoiding the sharks. Never did he think he would fall for the man he was smuggling to safety.
Halvard is having major trouble with the lust he feels for the former slave. Halvard wants to claim Patrick. His dragon side is desperate to be let out and take what's his, but Hal refuses to be like the people who abused Patrick for so long, and he's convinced Patrick's feelings only run so deep because Halvard was the first to give him protection.
But there are still slavers and bounty hunters after Patrick. Halvard may have hesitated in claiming his mate, but he won't hesitate to destroy anyone who dares attempt to take his mate—and that might mean putting everything on the line.
In this fourth installment of the adventurous ‘Dragon Smugglers in Space’ series, starring a mixed group of shifter species, the focus is on ex-pleasure slave and omega wolf Patrick and his pretend-mate, the dragon warrior Halvard. Patrick escaped from the sharkshifter planet Raxsor and was rescued by Axel, dragonshifter and captain of the spaceship Shark Fin. To fool the sharkshifters, Patrick pretended to mate with Halvard, except he wants nothing more than the mating to be real. Except Halvard won't have it because he thinks Patrick needs to experience freedom. The sharkshifters are still after the escapees, and as a result this story is suspenseful and contains a few surprises.
Patrick thought he was safe when he recognized Halvard as his mate. But the infuriating dragonshifter won’t have anything to do with him, not since the first time they became intimate and Halvard sent Patrick away. Now they are hiding out on Mars, hoping the sharkshifters won’t find them, and as soon as Patrick sets foot outside the ship, he almost gets caught again.
Halvard feels a strong pull toward Patrick, but he can’t give in for fear of bonding with the omega wolf. That’s the last thing Patrick needs – or so Halvard tells himself. Isn’t freedom after years of being a pleasure slave more important than being mated? But when Patrick is in danger, Halvard can’t come to his rescue fast enough and he begins to realize there may be more to the “pull” than physical attraction.
If you like stories about slaves running and fighting for their freedom, if you want to see a barely free slave fall for the shifter he knows is his mate, and if you’re looking for a read full of suspense, action, stubborn mates, and some scorching loving, then you will probably like this novella. I hope there will be more books in this series!
