For months Brenner has harbored a crush for Dragon shifter Derik. But, they couldn’t be more different. Brenner is a bubbly, medic with the Coalition, while Derik is a brooding, Assassin with the Loyalty. Yet, the heart wants what it wants and Brenner is determined to win his man.
Derik doesn’t understand why the Mountain Lion shifter can’t just realized they are never going to be a couple. He tries everything in his power to push Brenner away, but the pesky feline refuses to be deterred.
Then a dangerous mission brings them together and Derik is forced to spend time with Brenner. As they find themselves getting close, events unfold that could be the end of them and the shifter community. Will Brenner and Derik be able to prevail and find their happy ending? Or will Brenner die a single man?
I’ve been very excited about reading this installment of the ‘Assassin’s Loyalty’ series for two reasons. One, the author has not written a dragon shifter before in either this series or its companion ‘Lost Shifters’. And two, it’s a dragon, people. One of the coolest shifters ever! Brenner is a mountain lion, a medic for the Coalition, adorable, bubbly, and flirty. He also has a major crush on Derik, assassin, resident dragon, and all-around pain in the ass. Such fun to read. *grins*
Tar is the only drug known to get shifters high although it slowly kills them from the inside over time. Targeting the dealers and keeping the drug off the streets is something both the Loyalty and Coalition focus on. Now, though, someone – either shifter or human hunter – has figured out a way to tweak Tar so it kills instantly. Mitchell assigns Brenner to work with the team from the Loyalty as Brenner has experience with studying this drug. Brenner is beyond ecstatic when Derik insists on being the one to accompany him out into the field. Derik? Can’t for the life of him figure out why he made that offer. He doesn’t care about Brenner… or, does he?
Derik and Brenner are absolutely adorable together. Their mating was sweet, fun, and sexy. I also really enjoyed their missions together and the increasing story arc around the shifter drug trade. I’m hoping to see more of the combined efforts to track down Tomin’s old master as he seems to be at the head of this problem. I liked this addition to the series although I’m a little disappointed in the poor editing so I hope to see that improve.
