Book Review

I have a particular fondness for superheroes, especially when they can express their vulnerabilities and be passionate lovers. This story has all kinds of magnificent powerful beings…the really good, the horribly bad, and a collection in between, plus some A-1 regular folks too. What more could one ask? Well, of course, a story with everyone linked together, a topnotch major crisis at the end along with some mega-excellent futuristic biological and technological stuff! There is enough fantastic potentiality here to make up for any weak points. Given that science fiction readers are almost impossible to please 100 percent and I am one of them, this is one helluva adventure!

Quinn Summers is an astounding superhero given she is human. Her father is a monumental genius. His daughter is right on point with him as his most recent and exceptional discovery is being tested live within Quinn’s body...the Cobalt Protocol. As with anything that is still somewhat in the experimental stage, unforeseen and catastrophic occurrences are possible. However, that sets up the arena for a follow-up and two more amazing discoveries. Oh, I so would want to be in Quinn’s shoes even through all the pain and suffering. Quinn does it for her dad; I would do it for the flabbergasting experience!

Alex, Alexandra Renteria, is an emergency medical technician to help pay for school and is on the scene at just the wrong moment. She witnesses something that had been cleverly hidden from all but the most select people in the population. This incident sends her down the rabbit hole and into an incredibly fantastic situation that completely blasts her old life to smithereens. Nevertheless, she is tough, very giving, very passionate, and very capable of standing up to whatever craziness is tossed at her. I loved both Quinn and Alex!

Then there is one other major player, James Mullen. He was a close friend to Quinn from when they were children. He has always loved her. Unfortunately, he became susceptible to a colossal negative entity call Hellion. James’s helplessness came because Quinn honestly told him she could never be more than a friend. She loved him as a friend, but he wanted her as a lover. This was a triangular powder keg waiting to explode.

The primary people dynamics to keep a close eye on are Quinn and Alex, Quinn Summers and her father Carl, and James and the Quinn he created in his mind. This is a seat-of-your-pants kind of story with possible outcomes rising and falling at an incredible pace. Plus, massive destruction, loss of lives, and loss of self hang in the balance multiple times. Phew!!! I just adored and was thrilled by all the pieces and all the people. Superhero fans and science fiction fans hopefully have no problem being wowed. The big cherry on top is the love story between Quinn and Alex and where they eventually end up. Do read this to its completion. I was not disappointed and hope other readers won’t be either!
