After going on a present hunt while his boyfriend, Matt, is in the office, James finds several things he didn't expect, including photos of Matt in a Christmas jumper, an old teddy bear, and several letters to Santa Claus—one of which states that Matt doesn't need anything for Christmas because he has James. It seems Matt has been a very good boy this year….

Book Review

A perfect illustration of the saying that "still waters are deep", this story manages to convey a wonderful sense of love as well as a bit of cheeky cheer. James and his need to "snoop", ahem, follow the tradition of looking for Christmas presents ahead of time, sends him on a veritable voyage of discoveries about his lover Matt – revealing things he never expected.

James is nosy, and curious to find out what his Christmas presents might be. According to him, this is a long-standing tradition, so he doesn’t even feel bad when he starts looking through Matt's things. What he finds, though, is far more revealing about Matt than actually connected to Christmas. And the interpretation James gives to each item, the thought he puts into explaining them, is very romantic.

Matt isn’t quite sure what got into James while he was at the office, but he takes it all in stride. His reaction to James's snooping is relaxed, which shows how much he trusts him. And as for his letters to Santa that got revealed? That too is accepted in good humor.

Much in this story happens between the lines. I really liked that the author didn’t explain every thought and deduction, every emotion in excruciating detail. The story flows well, and leaves the interpretation of the meaning to the reader. Very well done! If you like gentle love stories that sweep you along into the character's world and have you following their every thought and discovery with great curiosity, if you enjoy the softer side of love, and if you're looking for a deeply romantic Christmas story, give this one a try. I really liked it!
