Book Blurb

Milo is too nice to say no when the desperate call goes out for more staff to work Boxing Day at Eden Consumer Electronics. It’s just until they sell the door-crasher specials, but it means he can’t see his billionaire boyfriend Lance until later that day.

Lance spends December 25 jetting back from a business trip, eager to see Milo. He calls as soon as his flight lands Boxing Day morning, only to find out that seven hundred and thirty televisions are cock-blocking him.

What’s the point of being a billionaire if you can’t spend your way around obstacles? Milo doesn’t want Lance solving his problems with cash, but he’ll never find out because Lance’s efficient personal assistant, William, is on the case. Unfortunately, even billionaires are subject to the law of unintended consequences—and these aren’t the kind Lance can buy his way out of.

Will Lance and Milo have their Boxing Day date? Or have Lance’s pushy billionaire ways finally gone too far?

Book Review

In a lot of billionaire stories that I have read, the billionaire takes great pleasure in spoiling his lover, and the lover usually enjoys being introduced into “the way the other half lives” – at least to some degree. In this delightful Christmas story set on Boxing Day in Canada, Milo has been going out with Lance for quite a while, but they have not yet reached the stage where Milo is comfortable with the differences in their financial status. In fact Milo is entirely uncomfortable with it, and the exact reason (beyond the obvious need for independence) only emerges slowly.

Milo works hard, and even though he has recently lost his job at the department store he works for, he still takes an extra shift when he is asked. It means his lover, billionaire businessman Lance, can’t be with him the way he had planned it – and that is a new experience for Lance. He is used to getting what he wants, but he cannot do that with Milo without getting in trouble and feeling defensive, almost guilty, for being so rich. As it turns out, Lance is very good at finding sneaky ways to try to reduce his waiting time by buying all the products Milo has promised to sell before leaving for the day. There is only one problem – Milo is equally adept at figuring it out and giving Lance a hard time.

Lance has never had a lover who did not take advantage of the money at Lance’s disposal. Milo is very conscious of this fact and since he truly loves Lance, he does not want to do anything that might look like he was taking Lance’s money. Milo knows he will never be a financial equal for Lance, but he has no idea how to solve this dilemma. Of course talking about it would be far too easy… As a result, I got to read the very amusing tale of Milo and Lance dancing around the issue, trying to figure out the perfect presents for each other, and only barely managing to avoid a major fight.

If you like billionaires who do their best not to take over their lover’s life, if you want to see how a hardworking guy does his best not to give in to the temptation of accepting the odd luxury here or there, and if you’re looking for a fun read with just a touch of suspense, then you will probably like this charming short story.
