Book Review

It has felt like I've been waiting way too long for this next installment in the 'Sirius Wolves' series. Each of the previous five books have kept me completely enthralled and I knew the author wouldn't let me down with 'The Beginning'. There's been so much that has happened with the Supreme Alpha Council of Blaze, Conner, Darric, and Aden, plus Marcus being chosen as alpha (a human, no less) of the Jefferson pack, the largest pack in the US. The betrayals and treachery that has followed throughout each book has kept me riveted. The Winter Circle is still a threat as is the god Anubis.

Marcus has just returned from getting his new legs and is thrust back into more drama and excitement. Kellan is very pregnant and Nate is beginning to show. Nate is also exhibiting some unusual gifts that there seems to be no explanation for until his father shows up out of the blue. Nate's father tells a story about his mother and a goddess named Anuket. Nate doesn't know what to make of all of this and Marcus wants only to protect him.

Pride, fear, inadequacy all bounced around Marcus’ head. He was human. He didn’t know what he was doing, not really. And now … Nate. He loved Nate with everything in him, but Marcus was a soldier. He knew power, any power, was a target. There were always others who wanted it, and he was very much afraid he wasn’t capable of protecting Nate if someone tried to take it off him, and everything in Marcus told him someone was going to try … and soon.

The excitement seriously ramps up when Nate's father kidnaps Kellan and holds him in exchange for Nate. Nate, Ricoh, and Aden sneak out to rescue Kellan following a vision that Nate has. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to get the answers to Nate's abilities and his missing memories, not to mention Kellan's imminent birth, and what the gods were doing about all of this mess.

I never expected the ending! Such a wonderful way to clear up some questions although I'm pretty sure the author still has more surprises coming. At least, I hope she does. A wonderful addition to the series.
