Book Blurb

Owen Sanders has a lot on his mind. Ever since being kidnapped from the City, he's been trying to get back in order to rescue the twin baby brothers he had been forced to leave behind. The only thing stopping him is leaving behind his newly found mate, Maltok, and the feelings he has for the other man.

Katrian Co-Alpha Chief, Maltok doesn't know why his human mate refuses to bond with him. When he finds out about Owen's forgotten family, Maltok is hurt that the smaller man would keep something so important from him. Maltok agrees to help retrieve the children on one condition; Owen must agree to mate him when they return to the Village. Owen reluctantly agrees.

The two men begin their journey and, on the way, learn that some misunderstandings must be resolved before they could have hope for their future. And when the City retaliates against their actions, the two men must make a decision that could save them all…

And possibly destroy the City forever.

Book Review

The second volume is just as interesting as the first, but focuses on getting to know the Katria side of the story. The mysterious ‘City’, almost referred to as a living being, continues to threaten the characters’ lives and existence. Everyone is sure that some sort of retribution will happen, they just don’t know when. Add to that the problem of Owen needing to rescue his younger brothers back, and you’ve got a lot of suspense to keep things interesting.

Owen, forced to leave the City or be killed, gets to know Katrian life, but the constant fear of what is happening to his brothers stops him from really committing to his new life. And that includes his mate, Maltok. He can feel the pull, but will not give in before his brothers are safe. I liked that loyalty, and rooted for him the whole way as he took the dangerous trip back.

Maltok, the man who turns out to be Owen’s mate, is understandably frustrated about Owen’s reluctance. As soon as he understands, he turns protective and supports what Owen needs to do. He is great with the children as well, and I can see him becoming a wonderful father-figure for them. One who can teach them the Katrian way of life.

Some of the secondary characters from the first book were back, Ash and Raine were very much around and I can see the whole group becoming a wonderful extended family. Something that would never be possible in the City and forms a great counter balance to the rigid ways of technology and control. If you like sci-fi with a touch of the paranormal, if you want to read about an adventurous rescue and courageous mates who risk their lives for their partner and their family, and if a strong mate bond which helps characters survive and flourish is your think, you will probably like this book as much as I did.
