Book Blurb

You never know what you’ll find in south Texas—or what will find you.

Trent Jacek doesn’t want too much—to live on the ranch his brother owns, a few puppies to keep him company in his trailer, maybe a good man if he can find one. First he has to catch a break long enough to try. Things just aren’t slowing down on the Jacek ranch. They’ve got a barn to rebuild, and their plan to get a pack of shifter wolves off their back doesn’t seem to be working.

Then there’s the matter of the bones the police are looking for on the ranch. After a greyed, old femur was left on the porch, Trent and his brother Joe are forced to confront some things they’d never expected to. Is that solitary bone from their mother, who went missing over twenty years ago? If so, how did she end up there? If not, who is dumping people on the ranch?

Trent’s been having the strangest dreams since he’s seen that femur but can’t imagine they’re more than just dreams. He doesn’t have a lot of time to worry about them between shifter attacks, a nosy biologist and neighbours coming by to snoop.

What Trent doesn’t know is someone has put an assassin on his tail, but it’s the assassin who will come to question everything he’s been told once he meets the vibrant, sexy man he’s been sent to kill.

Sequel to Dark Nights and Headlights

Book Review

After reading the previous book in this series (‘Dark Nights and Headlights’) and wondering if Joe’s brother Trent would find his own man to love, I was relieved to find out about the existence of this second book. I was also happy to see some more background emerge about the shifters in this world, none of it of the fluffy persuasion, and the heat between Trent and his newfound love interest is just as incendiary and kinky as what was (and still is) going on between Joe and Diego.

Trent is still exhausted from everything that has been happening with his brother running into a werewolf and their joint efforts to keep Diego safe. While Trent acts as if he is disgusted by all the “lovey-dovey stuff”, he is secretly jealous. He wants his own man to love, preferably one of the big, hairy kind. Between running into just the right guy when he’s out shopping, but knowing it is a one-time thing, trying to find out whose bone it was that landed on their doorstep, and keeping his bedroom free of tarantulas, Trent is convinced he’ll never find the time for romance. Oh, not to mention the odd recurring dreams that feel way too real to be ignored – they have Trent tied up in knots. And then imagine his surprise when the man he, ahem, encountered at the supermarket turns out to be an assassin?

Mahon is an assassin. He has been raised as such, and has never really thought about what he does for a living. He just follows orders and kills those men and women whom the people who raised and taught him tell him to kill. When he is so successfully “seduced” by Trent, the man he is supposed to kill, he begins to listen to the quiet voice inside him that has a few questions he has never spoken aloud. That, after all, would have landed him in no end of a mess, possibly have gotten him killed. But now, with Trent showing him a different side of things, Mahon cannot help but wonder.

These two men may come from different worlds, and it seems as if they could never fit, but they do. Trent is small of stature but his will is unbreakable, and he is a very pushy Dom in the bedroom. Mahon may be huge and strong, but he longs to be trusted and accepted, maybe even loved. If you prefer your shifters to be of the “vicious” persuasion rather than the “fluffy” kind, if you enjoy seeing two men going from being enemies to becoming lovers once they listen to each other rather than the propaganda they have been exposed to previously, and if you’re looking for a mystery filled with old secrets and some very hot and kinky bedroom action, then you will probably like this novel.
