Book Review

*shaking my finger at author* Really? You made me wait so long to get this fifth book? I've been salivating. Truly. Just kidding. Well, not really, but, you know. *grins* The dystopian world Elizabeth Noble has created in her series 'Sentries', continually kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly turning the pages, and, sometimes, leaving a nightlight on. These books, filled with the wondrous tales of Todd and Nick Ruger are well written, with strong, complex characters, and I've adored every one of them. 'Tethered Pair' is book five, and I knew in advance that I was in for quite a ride.

Todd and Nick, at the order of Chancellor Clarke, are undercover on a riverboat, as a professional gambler and his much neglected slave. They're looking for evidence of weapons being smuggled for the other side in the protectorate war currently raging. They find evidence, all right, and an old "friend" they thought was dead. Benning, a demon, and his partner, Snow, who happens to be none other than Jah'lar, are the two running the smuggling operation. Since Jah'lar is in a new body after the prior one "died", he recognizes them immediately. Not good to be trapped on a boat with so many wanting them both dead. Luckily for them, help comes from a most unexpected source.

Their job isn't over yet, after killing Benning, since Jah'lar escapes and jumps into a new body. As if this wasn't bad enough, Todd and Nick uncover a plot to assassinate the chancellor, which has them heading back to New Colorado, on the hunt for Jah'lar and the assassin, who are probably one and the same. It's a confrontation they face, as the chancellor is killed, and Jah'lar tries to run. Todd and Nick take off after him, mainly because the vice-chancellor will have them killed on sight, and it's time to end Jah'lar.

Definitely an exciting and action-packed addition to the series. I can't seem to get enough of this world, and I'm hoping for another installment. Soon.
