Rogue Galliston has never been a one-man’s man. An endless stream of lovers with no permanent attachment was his way of life until he found himself in bed with Cory Anderson. Where emotions were supposed to be nothing but a word, Cory ignites something inside him that he can’t live without.
A month has passed since that fateful night when he envisioned a future and watched it shatter all within an hour. He hasn’t been able to garner up enough nerve to explain the events to Cory until a bet is proposed to him. Rogue has one week to reclaim Cory as his lover. For Rogue, the ultimate prize would come with earning Cory’s forgiveness.
Cory hasn’t been able to get Rogue out of his head. He tries to fight the wild attraction they share for each other, but quickly succumbs to his deep-rooted affection for Sinn’s rebel. Unfortunately, someone isn’t happy about their reunion, and will stop at nothing to destroy their rekindled happiness.
After having read the first three stories in this series, I was curious to find out who features in the next few books. Now that the three Stark brothers who own Sinn Island and run the fantasy resort built there so the rich and famous can hide away to have some erotic fun, have found lovers, it is clearly someone else’s turn. Much to my delight the first one is Rogue, a daring security guard whose driving style became famous, or rather infamous, in the previous book.
Rogue is a player if there ever was one. Permanent attachment isn’t even in his vocabulary, and even less on his mind. But all that is in the past and, like many players, he finds it very hard to change is image. Now that he cares about Cory, after just one night, nobody will believe him. When his friend proposes a bet to him, one with the potential to prove how much Rogue has changed, he doesn’t hesitate to accept its rules. What happens next is not the standard plot around bets like that I’ve seen before, and things heat up pretty quickly for all involved. Rogue is in way over his head, and he needs all the help he can get if he wants to achieve his real goal: mending fences with Cory and gaining a chance for a real relationship.
Cory is in a bind. He is insanely attracted to Rogue, and believes there may be potential for more, but after the crushing disappointment about Rogue’s behavior when they first met for a night of passion a month earlier, he withdraws. The one thing Cory is good at is detecting sincerity, having grown up with a psychologist father, so he is always a step ahead of the game. His observations and thinking were amusing, but thy also gave me some hope for these guys’ future.
If you like stories with fantastic and exotic settings, if a man trying to redeem himself sounds interesting, and if you’re looking for a hot read with an interesting plot involving deception and a bet, then you will probably like this novella.
