Book Blurb

Tristan has agreed to bond with Ushna, but there is still much to do and returning to Tribe Enkidu puts everyone on edge. Tristan is being stalked like prey, all the while fighting depression as he mourns the loss of Nikita, and enduring a battle of wills with the Elder Council over his birthright. The pleading of his adoptive daughter only adds still more stress to the situation.

Stumbling onto a secret prison while searching for Ushna leads Tristan to risk everything to free a lost God. But breaking the tie to his Flame has more repercussions than Tristan knew and the assistance of a forgotten Goddess and a centuries old lover may not be enough to save him.

Book Review

In this fourth volume the mystery deepens even as some of the questions from previous books are answered. The blend of Sumerian legends, lycan and other paranormal stories is further enhanced as the birth of the royal heirs moves closer and closer. As expected, some of the security measures are not enough, and Tristan's enemies remain unconquered. As if he didn’t have enough to deal with, current and new obstacles appear and the power struggle becomes more heated by the second.

Tristan is still very pregnant, but that doesn’t stop him from making the trip to see the Elder Council to claim his birthright, as well as visit with the mothers of his ex-Flame's children. Of course, nothing is as easy as it seems, and Tristan is challenged to fight even while extremely pregnant. At least it brings him closer to Ushna than ever before, until they are brutally separated and left to fend for themselves.

Ushna continues to be amazing and just what Tristan needs. While he is still the partner Tristan wants, and, in fact, the two end up closer than ever, the attention gradually shifts from him to include the clearly missing third partner. Ushna isn’t very vocal about missing his Twin Flame, the one who was killed when he was eleven, but when the question about what to do about their third emerges, Ushna's answer is very clear. At least my questions from the last book, the ones about the problem of a bond between what emerges to be a triad, not a couple, are finally answered.

This series just goes from strength to strength. The mix of epic fantasy and paranormal drama just gets better with each book, and, as ever, I am on tenterhooks for the next instalment. If you like ancient legends with a mysterious yet modern twist, if you enjoy sweeping tales with stunning revelations and yet more secrets, and if you're impatient to find out what Tristan and Ushna are made to suffer next, then you need to read this book. Answers are given, new questions are added, and the tension increases to unprecedented levels. How will all of this end? This series has certainly managed to keep my attention!
