Now Tarris is in a desperate fight to save her life and, more importantly, to save those who turned their back on her. But no one ever leaves the Corps alive.

 

Book Review

I love to read speculative stories of the future. The brand-new imaginative turns in this story make it especially intriguing. Plus the tried and true plot lines presented some deliciously curious and intricate scenarios. I found this book riveting, so I certainly recommend it. Mind-bending!

Tarris Waite is an extremely interesting individual. She is apparently disabled from the waist down, possibly due to an accident. However, I suggest you take every potential given with a wait-and-see view. That includes Tarris herself as I felt she would benefit from a few eye-opening revelations and recomputations, just as I had my eyes opened. Additionally, the support device that she wears is a startling advancement on a device that exists in part in our current day and age. I find all futuristic stories more engaging when they project existing conditions and situations that currently occur. Moreover, Tarris’s slightly less than standard albino condition, and her internalized shadow that retains and enhances her lost twin all come into play in an astoundingly labyrinthine way that added and elevated my enjoyment. Though it is a difficult situation to have Tarris grow, accept, and evolve, nevertheless, growth, acceptance, and evolution appear to have a life and strength all their own. Magnificent!

Asher Hyrea presents a really wonderful counterpoint to Tarris Waite. Tarris initially barges in on Asher, since Tarris feels this doctor, called a mediprac in the future, may very well have the answer and the means to reverse Tarris’s incapacities. There is a delicious and startling occurrence when Tarris sees Asher for the first time. That may help to explain why Asher emphatically chooses to stay with Tarris when things get really sticky. Their superheated sexual relations probably add to Asher's growing entanglement and love for Tarris, too. With all that these two go through, it is heart-stopping and heartwarming how their attachment, closeness, and love grows. I did not want to miss anything. Splendidly heroic!

So much goes on and the collection of characters both good and bad keep the frenzy level high! With my eyes often open wide, the astonishments still make my jaw drop, time and time again. I adored the twists and turns that assail the women as the elements that hide the truth are pealed away. The curiously disturbing subterfuge and machinations provide ample opportunity for heroism. Simply delightful!
