Book Blurb

Jude knows he isn’t relationship material. The entire population of Mars made it abundantly clear he’s damaged goods, and he agrees. His issues are why he works a remote job flying around the galaxy prospecting for metals, and why he ruthlessly quashes any feelings for Cal, his surveying partner.

Cal has been looking for an opening to suggest he and Jude could be more than friendly coworkers. When they crash on a tundra planet, the men have a lot of free time, and they put it to good use having sex. It’s fun, but Cal wants Jude as a boyfriend, not a friend with benefits.

Marooned on a hostile world, with Jude’s demons rearing their heads, Cal’s first task is to keep the two of them alive. His second is to convince Jude that, no matter how much he’s suffered, romance can still be in the cards.

Book Review

When circumstances drive someone into exile, the most likely outcome is not necessarily that you end up liking where that puts you. But Jude, who sees himself as damaged goods for reasons that only emerge slowly, has ended up working as a metal prospector in the far reaches of the galaxy – and he likes his job. The he gets Cal assigned as his navigator, and suddenly he has something else to focus on. What follows is a slow-burn romance without mushy feelings, a gradual reveal of deeper emotions and needs, and a snowy adventure that makes both men realize they were lucky not to die. At least they now have a chance to explore a relationship beyond just being colleagues.

Jude has been a prospector for Alston Mining for almost four years, a record as far this job goes. He does not want to be near people due to the darkness in his past, hates the thought of becoming famous, and normally prefers his work buddies to remain distant. Cal is a newly minted navigator, has been burned by a lying work partner, and is looking for ways to explore a physical, possibly romantic, relationship with Jude. They have barely begun to find out what is between them when they crash on an icy planet, and hoping for rescue becomes the only thing they can do – other than having lots and lots of sexy encounters.

If you like the trope of being snowed in and isolated from civilization, if you enjoy stories with a futuristic slant, and if you’re looking for a science fiction read that focuses on the main characters as much as on their adventures, then you will probably like this novella.
