Book Blurb

Connor ‘CJ’ Lamont is at the top of his game playing the bad boy of country music. The problem with his ultimate redneck persona is that… well, he’s not. CJ is a wickedly smart songwriter and musician who suffers from an excess of personality. He lives, not for the spotlight, but for the three months of downtime each year when he can finally be himself.

Sexy werewolf Lee Mills is hired as CJ’s new security to keep him safe and assure that he stays on the medication he’s been on since birth. But when Connor’s parents see sparks fly between their son and his new security guard, they are intent on keeping the wolf at bay. Of course, Mills isn’t used to taking orders, at least not from anyone who isn’t his pack alpha, and he has no intention of following the rules.

In fact, if Mills has his way, he’ll be smashing the spotlight and showing Connor the moon.

Book Review

A bad boy of country music with deep secrets but no idea who he really is, a possessive, controlling mother who manages his career, an absentee, full-alpha father, and a sexy werewolf bodyguard all in the same story? Bring it on! I have to admit just reading the blurb for this novella had me jumping up and down with anticipation, and knowing that this story was penned by BA Tortuga just made it even better. From the first page, I was pulled into Connor’s and Mills’s world, alternately laughing about Connor’s escape attempts and Mills’s ability to “sniff them out”. The banter when they are first thrown together is a hot, and the heat they begin to generate once they figure out there are better ways to spend their time than trying to outsmart each other? The heat is fantastic, the emotions very wolf-y, and the increasing need for Connor to figure out what the heck was going on with all this “werewolf stuff’ held me in suspense.

Connor is super intelligent, loves music, and is very, very good at playing the role of CJ, a redneck country music image created for him by his label. But once his tours are over? He vanishes into anonymity and returns to being the “real” Connor. He likes a simple life soaking up the sun on a beach and writing songs far better than being in the limelight and surrounded by adoring fans. He hates the fact that his mother thinks she has a right to control his every move (which she calls protecting him), and has become exceedingly good at escaping his security people when he wants to get away. Connor thinks the new guy is no different, but he is in for a big surprise!

Mills is said new security guy and he has been hired by Connor’s mother to make sure Connor stays safe during his three months off, and stays on his medication. The one that suppresses his wolf, a fact that Connor has never been told about. Aside from Mills’s ability to stay with Connor, no matter where he escapes to, it very quickly becomes obvious that Mills has his own agenda. Not surprising for a strong werewolf who is pretty independent, all things considered. And the more Mills discovers about Connor’s secrets, the more fascinated he becomes. His feelings for Connor change everything for Mills, and I loved the unfolding drama!

Rather than muddy the waters, the emotions between Connor and Mills clarified a few things and brought everything to a head. This story is a perfect example of what happens when a son decides to live his life undisturbed by parental interference. Yes, Connor has Mills’s support – and boy, does he need it! But the decisions Connor makes are his, and it was great to watch him take his life into his own hands!

If you like werewolves and country music, if you want to find out more about two men who are thrown together by Fate (and a meddling mother) only to find out they are better together than apart, and if you’re looking for a read that is entertaining, hot, and has some great twists and turns, then you will probably like this novella. It’s a wonderful romance and a suspenseful mystery/adventure at the same time.
