Book Blurb

Rojan Ja'Dar is a rogue, a pirate that buys and sells cargo for a living. He is his own man, skirting the edge of the law and answering to no one. Arriving on a particular planet, he goes to drop off cargo and discovers a human pet being sold at an auction house. Intrigued, Rojan breaks all his rules and buys the human as his pet. It isn't until after he purchases the human that Rojan discovers he's just bought his mate.

Claiming Tyion Rhodes is not as easy as buying him. Not understanding the danger he is in, Tyion fights his situation as a highly prized and sought after pet in Rojan's world. Rojan has to convince Tyion that being his mate is not as bad as being a pet, even if they have to pretend to the rest of the world that Tyion is just a possession. That is hard to do when someone is after Tyion, someone not from Earth.

Book Review

This is a great story with some interesting aliens who go around the universe collecting pets. Specifically, human pets. Humans are seen as weak and primitive creatures, but very 'trainable'. That one made me smile. I thought the concept of citizens of planets which aren't part of the United Planetary Alliance having absolutely no rights whatsoever was a rather human one. It's probably how we'd treat aliens, if we were the species in charge. A very chilling thought indeed to see “us humans” at the other end of the spectrum.

But, I digress. This book puts humans into the position of weakness and follows the story of Tyion, who is abducted to be sold as a slave. Luckily he gets rescued by Rojan, who finds out that Tyion is his mate. The twists and turns that follow as their relationship develops had me smiling about their antics, panting for air when they got physical, and frowning in dismay and anger when the villain made an appearance.

Rojan is a space pirate, but based on the kind of cargo he carries, I got the impression he is actually a bit of a knight in slightly tarnished armor as well. He buys Tyion on an impulse and pretends to be a tough master. At one point he even spanks Tyion to show his new pet who's in charge, but he's a big softie inside. An interesting mixture and one I loved reading about.

Tyion is a young human who is facing the “classic” alien abduction scenario: torn from his bed by a white light in the middle of the night, sold as a slave, then examined by an alien doctor – who has a big silvery probe. That is where the traditional situation ends and a wild adventure begins. His emotions are, understandably, all over the place, but one thing is certain: he is very attracted to Rojan – despite the man’s initially overbearing attitude. When the villain comes along to take Tyion away, the human is ready to fight tooth and nail to be returned to his alien “master”.

If you like stories about huge, powerful aliens who abduct humans to make the into their pets, if you enjoy reading about the weaker human figuring out he is the one who is in charge, and if you’re looking for a hot, adventurous, and entertaining read set in outer space, then you will probably like this novel. Personally, I can't wait for the sequel...
