Book Review

After having recently met the very gorgeous Daniel A. Kaine, and then having a ton of people recommend 'Slasherazzi' to me, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. I was familiar with the author, but only from a short story in an anthology; however, his writing had greatly impressed me. And, let's face it here, people, this story is right up my alley. It's gruesome, sick, twisted, and dark.

Alex and his partner Tanya have been working the Slasherazzi killer with absolutely no leads in sight. This latest victim is number five, and their killer is escalating as he's now torturing them while they're still alive. If you've ever watched any type of criminal TV shows, then you know that the last thing a cop wants is the killer to escalate, to grow more comfortable, and seek to evolve. Having Vince, Alex's on-again, off-again reporter boyfriend, show back up isn't helping matters. It seems that Vince can't seem to separate his job from his relationship with a homicide detective. Huh, I wonder why?

The deaths continue to pile up, including a detective, which brings the FBI in to assist. Unfortunately, it looks as though the killer has been playing a game, all along, of cat and mouse with Alex, and pretty soon the game won't be enough. This killer is very smart, leaving no evidence, no witnesses, and changing his modus operandi, something almost unheard of by serial killers. Not to mention this killer is very creative in his methods, and the author did a wonderful job showcasing the depths of his depravity.

I'm a little speechless at the end of this book. I had guessed the killer earlier, although I think that was more from luck than anything else. However, I never in a million years could've guessed where the author took the story. I'm supremely impressed by the writing, and the story. Excellent work, Daniel, thank you.
