Ayla Hammond has come home. After years as a lone wolf in a self-imposed exile, she's rejoining the pack and trying to mend fences with her parents. She's convinced them to accept her girlfriend, but can a lone wolf change her ways? As if homecoming wasn't hard enough, Ayla also can't help getting involved in a missing person case. With pressure to solve the case mounting from the pack alphas, Ayla is starting to question where her loyalties lie—and if a return to the pack she left behind is really what she wants.
This is the sequel to 'Wolf Strap'. Once again the feisty lesbian wolf shifter and her mate are central to another tense, intriguing mystery. All their worries and trials of keeping financially afloat while being drawn into battling the sordid forces that jeopardizes all werewolves and humans test the strength and integrity of Ayla and Shannon’s relationship. As in Wolf Strap, there are some brutal and violent confrontations, this time exacerbated by the latest drug assault on young werewolves in the form of Silver Kiss.
Ayla participates in a number of pack activities in contrast to her lone wolf persona when she and Shannon met following Ayla having run away from her home base. This is the first of many stresses faced by the couple. Being a mixed pair and within a minority sexual orientation, the cards seemed stacked against these mates. I was privy to some acute partner stresses, but also to some wonderful partner loving.
Shannon has moved away from her comfort zone and her family to be with Ayla in her home territory. That impacts all levels of Shannon’s life and the stress upon her and Ayla is profound. However, it is some heavy-handed outside pressures that nearly lower the boom on Shannon and Ayla. Their love is so total and so integral to each other’s sense of everything. The strain is enormous!
I was so focused on the internal levels of wolf shifter existence throughout this book. They play an important part time and again as a serious threat to young and older wolf shifters as well as a path to healing and survival. I needed to be strong to stay the course, but I was pleased and thankful that I did. Be open and prepared for an intense but worthwhile reading experience.
