When Gavin Thorvald, local dragon lord, met his mate, Sebastian Michael, he thought everything would finally be right with the world. It had taken six hundred years, but he had finally met the one man made just for him. After Sebastian’s own brother held him away from Gavin long enough to make Sebastian lose their first egg, Gavin thought his mate would never be ready for another. Now, on the night of their wedding ceremony, Gavin was about to get a second chance.
The plans have been made, the grounds have been decorated, and the guests have been invited. Sebastian is prepared, so he thinks, to tie the knot and accept a new egg. He knows Gavin is ready and deep down he feels he is, too. Fate wouldn’t give them a second chance if they weren’t both ready. Unfortunately, no matter how prepared you are things can always go wrong.
Sebastian’s secrets will be told and Gavin will have to fight harder than he thought to keep everything together.
After the horrible events of book one (and yes, you need to read that one first to get the complete picture), it was a relief for me to see that book two takes a different approach. While still tension-filled and edge-of-seat powerful, this part of Sebastian and Gavin’s story focuses on the psychological side of them losing their first egg.
Sebastian is taking things a lot harder than he will admit. He blames himself for losing the egg, and no amount of reassurance will make him see that it wasn’t his fault. He did everything he possibly could have done, and the only people to blame are the b*stards who tortured him. His feelings of inadequacy are hard to understand for anyone who has not gone through the loss of a child, never mind under such horrible circumstances, and the fact that all his friends think he is strong makes him feel even weaker. No matter how often the therapist he secretly sees tells him to talk to Gavin, Sebastian can’t get himself to do it.
Gavin realizes his mate is struggling, but he has no idea how deep Sebastian’s problems go. He also wants to support him, and in the dragon lord’s mind, admitting that Sebastian is weak is not part of that support. Boy, does he have a lot to learn! One thing Gavin is very good at though, and that is loving Sebastian unconditionally. He shows this in the way he plans their wedding ceremony, which is beautiful, and in so may other little and big things he does for Sebastian. As they slowly get back to normal, including some very hot kinky activities, and the pregnancy progresses, Gavin begins to see something is really wrong as Sebastian loses more and more weight even though he is carrying their egg. When he finally puts his foot down, I breathed a sigh of relief.
If you like male pregnancy and dominant dragon shifters who love their mates with all their heart, if you enjoy stories about men who have to fight their inner demons before they can be truly happy, and if you’re looking for an intense read with lots of emotion and even more heat, then you will probably like this novella. I hope the third installment will be published soon!
