No more running from love…
Nearly a year after being rejected for another man, Seattle paramedic Peter Morse is still pining, so when the one that got away asks him for a favor, he agrees. His mission: track down Sean Reid, the runaway brother of a mutual friend. Peter isn’t thrilled about it—until he finds Sean injured by the side of the road.
Everything about Sean stirs Peter’s protective instincts—saving people is what he lives for—but he never anticipated falling for someone so hell-bent on running from him. On top of his physical wounds, Sean struggles with grief and guilt, and the mess his estranged father left when he died threatens to overwhelm him.
Saving Sean means Peter must let go of his pride and turn to friends and family. Asking for help is a bitter pill for Peter to swallow, but if he can’t, how can he expect Sean to accept his help—and his love—in turn?

In this series of stories about loss and moving on, ‘Saving Sean’ deals with a different kind of loss than ‘After Ben’, but it involves some of the same characters, which I found fascinating. In book one, Theo lost his long-term partner, Ben, and had a very hard time moving on. Theo ended up falling in love with Morgan, but the other man he’d gotten close to, Peter, is now devastated that he lost the opportunity to be with Theo. So this is Peter’s story – the tale of how he finds Sean, who is in dire need of support and someone to help him, Peter’s struggle with his remaining feelings for Ben, and his coming to a point where Sean becomes more than a “project” or patient who needs help.
Peter is a dedicated paramedic and good enough at his job to be traveling around so he can teach others. He blames “losing Theo” on being away all the time, and he may be partly right, but the more I got to know him, the clearer it became to me that Peter and Theo would not have been as good a fit as Theo and Morgan. Peter is also too much of a caretaker, a “rescuer” not just professionally, so he needs a partner who needs “saving” not just literally but in the way he lives his life. When Peter first meets Sean, who is Theo’s assistant’s brother, and begins to understand exactly how deeply Sean is in trouble, that “saving” could be seen pretty literally. But even beyond that, one of the reasons Peter and Sean work as a couple, is that Peter is a great “keeper”, and Sean badly needs one on a permanent basis. There is only one problem - Peter will have to learn to ask for help.
Sean is a troubled man. He introduces himself to Peter as “Sean Reid. Gay brother of your one-time fling’s personal assistant. Black sheep.” And he isn’t wrong. He is dedicated, worried about the environment, and passionate. He had a falling-out with his father and they haven’t spoken in years, but when Sean’s father dies, it leaves him feeling guilty as well as in physical danger. His father had been trying to stop a project many people have an interest in making happen, and now that Sean steps in, he finds himself physically threatened. His response to danger has always been to run, but now he’ll have to learn how to stick around, accept help, and deal with the consequences of something his father has started.
If you like realistic stories about men who deal with loss of different types, if you enjoy seeing a relationship going from almost hostile to loving and supportive, and if you’re looking for a character-driven story with lots of personal growth and change as well as a touch of mystery and suspense, then you will probably like this novel.
