Give up his dream or go for exactly what he wants?
Sam Grau never planned on seeing his former best friend again. One-night stands worked well enough to ease his heartache and loneliness...except he wanted more. He’s got a choice—chase his dreams or the man he loves. He can’t have both.
Josh Thomas never gave up on finding the one man who understood him down to the cellular level. He walked away once, but not a second time. He’s willing to sacrifice his heart and pride to show his quirky friends the men they’ve both become, all in the name of saving Sam.
Life is tough for someone who has dreams, yet cannot seem to fulfill them because he has a knack for self-sabotage. Sometimes they need saving – from themselves and the life they have ended up with. This is the story of one such couple – ideally suited to "save each other", but they should take their time to realize this!
Sam was rejected by his parents when he came out, and his best friend left for greener pastures at the end of college. As a result Sam has become very good at self-sabotage – he dreams of becoming a GLBTQ youth counselor, yet looks too much like a kid for the "powers that be" to take notice of who he really is. Sam wants a happy relationship, but ends up pushing away the men he ends up having one-night stands with – just in case they leave him. Sam definitely needs saving, that is for sure!
Interestingly, the man to do the saving is the best friend who left Sam because, at the time, he felt he needed to sort out his own life. Now that he has done that, he is back with a vengeance. I'm not sure I can really respect him for doing that – if he is such a great friend, how can he leave Sam to his own devices and selfishly follow his own dreams without even trying to make things work? But then again, I guess we all make mistakes.
If you like stories about men who are their own worst enemies, yet eventually learn to overcome this shortcoming when they team up together, if you enjoy reading about flawed characters, and if you're looking for a short, entertaining read with a bit of redemption for past sin, then you will probably like this short story.
