When David Merrow is given the task of finding a suitable soup kitchen so his company can improve their PR, he realizes he needs help. Book Review

Christmas and the holiday spirit are the focus of this story from the very start, and in more than one way. David is a PR guy and may not be entirely enthusiastic about his boss’s idea of using a soup kitchen to spruce up their law firm’s image over the holidays, but once he starts to work on the project, he runs into Jason and his perspective changes. Yes, the soup kitchen and the work they both do there is still significant, but their new relationship soon takes center stage.

David has a job, an apartment, and a loving (if somewhat overwhelming) family. When he begins to look for a soup kitchen willing to partner with his employer to get some publicity, David suddenly sees the homeless in a very different light. He also gets a lot closer to Jason, the owner of the coffee shop where David grabs breakfast-on-the-run every weekday morning. As the project develops and they begin to know each other better, David only becomes more curious about Jason every time they meet.

Jason is not a happy man. He has a well-run business and dedicates a lot of his time to helping those less fortunate than him, but he has a sad past and not much of a social life. Jason is determined to be a good guy, but he can’t even admit his need for intimacy until he has found the courage to come out to David. There is a lot to discover about him, and I enjoyed his and David’s slow burn romance.

If you’re looking for a mostly drama-free, sweet, warm holiday read about two lonely men who decide life is more fun when they are together, then you might like this novella.
