Book Blurb

Roy’s life takes a turn for the bizarre when he finds himself in a coma after a car accident and must make a deal with Cupid to return to his body. He’s a virgin with a connection to the supernatural, which makes him a prime candidate for what Cupid has in mind. The god wants Roy to mate with a jaguar shifter and have the man’s children.

Nexus, the Regulus of his clan, has been given a deadline to find a mate or be challenged for his position. Desperate, he turns to Cupid and the Cherry Matchmaking Agency to do so. He’s already had to kill one close friend for the title he now holds, and he doesn’t want to have to kill another.

Roy and Nexus’s life together gets off to a rocky start that isn’t getting smoother anytime soon. Someone is plotting to remove Nexus from power, and they plan to use Roy and their unborn babies as leverage to do so. Can Nexus keep Roy and his unborn children safe amongst the danger surrounding them?

Book Review

What a fascinating setup for a new supernatural series: Cupid is in charge of a matchmaking agency in search of humans with certain very specific characteristics to mate with various shifters. This first story is about Roy, a human with catshifters in his ancestry, and Nexus, the ruler of the Western clan who is in dire need of a mate if he doesn’t want to kill the next challenger to his title. Oh, and there’s the meddling manager of the Cherry Matchmaking Agency – who is none other than Cupid himself. Let the fun and games begin!

Roy may be a human, and he is totally shocked by the sudden revelation that he will either die or have to mate a catshifter and carry his babies, but he is no pushover. He has a mind of his own, definite ideas how things are supposed to be, and won’t sit quietly in a corner just because he is much younger than his husband and doesn’t know the first thing about the rules of the supernatural clan he now heads. I really enjoyed the way he stands up for himself. His growing attraction and feelings for Nexus came naturally and made Roy all the more determined to be a worthy mate – human or no human!

Nexus may be a powerful ruler of a whole clan of supernaturals, but he is still single and that makes him vulnerable to all kinds of machinations – many of them coming from his own family. There are other threats as well, but it takes him longer to even see them, never mind deal with them. Nexus is excited to get married, but he has seen Cupid’s work before, so he has far fewer issues than Roy. He does his best to support Roy, even manages to find him a friend who can understand the human side better than Nexus ever can, and I respected him for that.

The setup worked really well for me. There is lots of humor, great snarky banter between Roy and Nexus, as well as lots of political tension, shifter politics, threats and intrigue from every side. The world building is excellent, including an imaginative power structure. The cast of secondary characters is fantastic, more than one had their own agenda, and the action never really lets up. But it was the romance between Roy and Nexus that really charmed me. From the somewhat forced starting point and neither of them being comfortable with the idea of a rush marriage, they manage to at least get in some getting-to-know-each-other before the proverbial sh*t hits the fan. The underlying bond they have helps them solidify their relationship, but it gets tested under the worst conditions, and I feared the worst more than once.

If you like romances set in a unique supernatural world with tons of rules to discover, if you enjoy watching two strong-willed men battle it out as they fall in love, if you’re a fan of mpreg and the issues that come with a man discovering what it’s like to be pregnant and to give birth, and if you’re looking for an entertaining read that is funny, suspenseful, action-packed, and very hot all at once, then you will probably like this novel as much as I do. I can’t wait for the next in the series!
