Book Blurb

When Dr Jack Hanrahan set out for a much needed vacation, he had no idea his life would forever change on a remote biking trail in Roley's Wood…

Jack Hanrahan is a California surgeon taking a brief cycling vacation with friends in Edinburgh, Scotland. A woman's scream shatters his peaceful ride in the recently cleaned up Roley's Wood.

He and his best friend, Paul, a heart surgeon, race towards the sound. They find a woman lying on the ground, clinging to life, an arrow sticking out of her body. Jack and Paul have no way of knowing that she disappeared weeks ago and has been the subject of a huge manhunt. They try to help her, working on her frantically until they are able to call for help but by the time they reach the hospital, it's too late.

In the confusion, they realise whoever fired at her must have been an onlooker because the arrow Paul took out of the victim is missing. How could they have not noticed the killer sneaking back to remove it?

The case soon lands in the procurator fiscal's hands. Jack has never heard of this but soon finds that the man in question is the very sexy public prosecutor Brodie Shaw, who promptly asks Jack for help in the twisty mystery as they begin to fall in love with each other…

Book Review

As if taking a vacation with his ex-lover and his new boyfriend isn’t bad enough, Dr. Jack Hanrahan also gets involved in a gruesome murder situation, and has to deal with the aftermath of losing a patient. Even though all of this sounds pretty glum, the way he deals with the situation is handled sensitively and encouraging. The emphasis is on the hope we all need to get through dark times. Jack has it in spades, even if he struggles, and the support he gets both from expected sources and a totally new and unexpected friendship and beginning love makes this an all-round wonderful book.

Jack is in dire need of a vacation. He's just overcome a dangerous virus and needs a change in pace. Little does he know his three weeks in Scotland will be more stressful than he ever thought possible. It starts with the awful (but cheap) accommodations his ex-lover Paul picked. It gets worse when Jack realizes he'll have to listen to Paul and his new lover, Milo, making love all night. By the time he and Paul try to save the murder victim, the vacation is shot.

Brodie is the local equivalent of an American DA, and he comes to Jack's rescue in more than one way. He solves the case (with Jack's help), supports Jack's efforts to move to a decent hotel, and is a generally hot and wonderful guy. Just the medicine Jack needs to get over his issues. Brodie is not just a hot lover, though, he also turns out to be a good friend.

This is an emotional story, and you'll find a lot of action and character development packed into just a few pages. I loved the funny details and observations about Scottish food as much as the descriptions of the local countryside. The supporting characters are great as well, and the story left me with a definite smile on my face. If you like doctors who need a bit of a hand to come back to themselves, if you enjoy a little humor mixed in with your romance, and if you want to find out what a procurator fiscal does, you need to read this story. I loved everything about it!
