The love of his life will bring out his roar.

John Dallas has lots of money, but no real direction in his life. He cares for lions at a local petting zoo where people can pay to pet the cubs. He’s heard stories and read about shifters—creatures who can shift from an animal form into a human form. Seeing the lions makes him wonder if those lions can shift. When he witnesses an act of cruelty to the lions, he finds his purpose in life—to save the lions.

Markas knows he can shift, but hasn’t yet. He’s fascinated by John and wants to shift in order to get to know the human better. But lions don’t last at the petting zoo past their third birthday. Once he’s at the age of being moved, he’ll lose his chance with John. Will John accept him in his human form? He’s determined to shift and snag the man of his dreams.

What will happen when the shifter and the human are thrown together by fate? White hot sparks.

Book Review

Are shifters real or not? Most people in the world of the ‘Sanctuary’ series haven’t made up their minds one way or the other, but I suspect that may change as the series progresses. John certainly has his eyes opened in this story, and Markas – well, as a shifter he has no doubts about their existence, but he does need to learn how to be human. A cute beginning to what promises to be a fun series with a whole petting zoo full of lions who need rescue – whether they are lions or lion shifters.
John has a few issues: he lacks self-confidence, he has had several boyfriends who turned out to want him only for his money, and he lacks direction in his life (or so his father told him before he died). He has worked at the petting zoo for a while and likes the work he does, but his boss is not just nasty to John (who used to think he loved him) but also to the lions. When John finds proof that the man is allowing people to hunt the lions that are too old for the petting zoo (for a fee, of course), John decides enough is enough and sets out to rescue the animals.

Only when he frees the first four of them out, barely in time to prevent them from getting shot, he realizes that all of them are shifters. John has always wondered about Markas, but the other three are a total surprise. The journey of discovery that follows as Markas adapts to being human and the two men begin an affair that quickly turns into more is entertaining, adventurous, and not without its pitfalls. After all, the furious ex-boss is still around, and he wants “his” lions back.

If you like shifters who need rescue, if two men who are ready to fight for what they believe in sounds interesting, and if you’re looking for a light, fun read about lion shifters and their “keepers”, then you might enjoy this book.
