Dashing von Stride has one thing on his mind: winning the window display contest for the Miracle on Main Christmas Contest. His plans are set and ready—and then he walks into his toy store, Reindeer Games, to find a sleigh that shouldn't be there. The mystery sleigh sparks a new plan, however, and now all Dash needs is the perfect Santa to model his display after.

This year, the pranks with his reindeer have gotten out of hand. Instead of preparing for the Big Day, Niklaus Kringle is hunting for his missing sleigh. Locating it should have been easy, but games easily won are seldom worth playing...

Book Review

In a charming fantasy that bridges reality and the fabled North Pole, ‘Reindeer Games’ tells the story of Dashing von Stride - toy store owner in Wassail, Colorado, where Christmas rules all year - and Niklaus Kringle, oldest son of King Kristopher Kringle, Sr. This version of the North Pole has a royal family (the Clauses), elven royalty, some old feuds, and a few more interesting variations on the theme as generally pictured. The two men begin by looking for something entirely different from what they find, and I loved following their adventures and many revelations they uncover together. It made for a very sweet read with a bit of tension, lots of passion, and an old mystery partly solved.

Dash is a dedicated toymaker. He runs his toy store with all the joy that should come with such a fun job, and his only unfulfilled wish is to win the Miracle on Main Christmas contest. A rather nasty business owner has won two years in a row and rubbed it in Dash’s face enough, so Dash is determined to make it this year. He will not cheat though, not wanting to stoop to the arrogant competitor’s level. When Dash discovers first an unexplained sleigh in his store, then Nik standing outside, he feels pulled to him, and as soon as they meet ad begin to talk, Dash finds out things he never thought were possible.

Nik is annoyed at his reindeers’ pranks, and hiding his sleigh in the human realm is pretty low. But when he traces his vehicle to Dash’s store, his focus shifts and Dash is soon at the center of Nik’s attention. Nik can feel something more is going n than what’s visible on the surface, and he won’t rest until he discovers the truth. Big Day or no Big Day, there is something special about Dash…

If you like stories about the North Pole and all who might live there, if two men who would have never met but for the prank of a bratty reindeer tickle your fancy, and if you’re looking for a fun read that is a sweet as it is imaginative, then you will probably like this novella.
