Love never goes out of style.
Landry Bishop fled his tiny hometown and never looked back. Now his expertise in food, fashion, and décor has earned him all of Hollywood’s glittering perks. But with his husband deceased and his personal assistant retired, Landry has nobody to rely on—and no one to help him indulge his secret cravings.
Casual, plainspoken Jordan Stryker seems a dubious choice of a PA for someone as formal and self-controlled as Landry. Jordan’s questionable fashion sense and limited kitchen skills don’t exactly enhance his résumé. But as Landry soon realizes, Jordan has many attractive qualities too.
With a strong pull toward Jordan, new career opportunities on the horizon, and a persistent tug from family back home, Landry is in a quandary. He can advise others on how to make their lives special, but what should he do about his own?
“Be more of who you want to be instead of who you think you should be.” — Elaine, Landry’s former PA
‘Redesigning Landry Bishop’ is a story of personal growth that comes when Landry has achieved his dreams – at least the ones that have been his goals since he left his hometown of Peril, Nebraska - and begins to ask the question “Now what?” Actually, he doesn’t really ask the question, instead he begins to feel uneasy, like something is missing. Landry has played a role for so long that he is no longer sure about who he really is or what he really wants. But even though he keeps telling himself that he should be happy with all the fame and the considerable money he has amassed, something is off. When his trusted PA retires and suggests he hire her “sister’s husband’s brother’s son” as a replacement, this sets in motion a chain of events that end up changing Landry’s life.
Landry is a generous man who likes to see others happy, though that is not how he sees himself. He has developed a reputation for knowing good food, excellent fashion sense, and he gives great decoration advice. He travels the world, living a life of glitz and glamour, and is a minor celebrity whom everyone wants on their talk show. But even though that is what he thought he wanted when he left home as soon as he was old enough, there is something missing. His personal life deteriorated after his twenty-year-older husband died a few years earlier, he hardly has any real friends, and he hasn’t spoken to his sister other than via an occasional email in ages. Basically, he is lonely but doesn’t want to admit it.
Jordan is at a very different point in his life. He has spent his twenties having fun, not really caring about building a career, and trying to figure out who he is and what he wants. He has decided that he likes helping people, and after a few assignments taking care of elderly people, he is ready to try something new. Based on his resume, Jordan does not have the kind of experience needed to be a PA, but his skills lend themselves to easing Landry’s life and he is very motivated.
While there is a basic attraction from the start, Landry and Jordan do not fall into immediate lust. Jordan is clearly interested, but Landry is very hesitant and keeps resisting because he is Jordan’s employer. They begin to bond during an impromptu three-day vacation in Vegas, especially during a hilarious high-end meal with portions fit for – and they both agree on this – Tinker Bell and her date rather than two hungry men. Jordan is refreshingly honest and direct, and it doesn’t take long for Landry to open up – much to his own surprise and Jordan’s delight. Love may never go out of style – as the blurb says – but as Landry and Jordan show, it can be extremely hard to come by.
If you like slow-burn romances with lots of personal growth for both characters, if you think a fashion/style guru and his PA can work out how to have a loving relationship, and if you’re looking for an entertaining read with lots of heart and a fabulous ending, then you will probably like this novel. It has an entirely different feel than the exciting international spy adventure of book one, but it left me with the same feeling of warmth and affection for the men from the little town of Peril, Nebraska.
