Lady Cory has carved out a life for herself not just as a wife to three husbands but also as one of the rulers of the supernatural communities of Northern California—and a college student in search of that elusive degree. When a supernatural threat comes crashing into the hard-forged peace of Green's Hill, she and Green determine that they're the ones in charge of stopping the abomination that created it. To protect the people they love, Cory, Bracken, and Nicky travel to Redding to confront a tight-knit family of vampires guarding a terrible secret. It also leads them to a conflict of loyalties, as Nicky's parents threaten to tear Nicky away from the family he's come to love more than his own life.
Cory has to work hard to hold on to her temper and her life as she tries to prove that she and Green are not only leaders who will bind people to their hearts, but also protectors who will keep danger from running rampant.
First Edition published as Rampant: The Fourth Book of the Little Goddess Series by iUniverse, 2010.
I've been waiting for this second volume of 'Rampant' to be released. I couldn't believe where the cut-off was from volume one to two, so jumping back in to the world of Cory, Green, Bracken, Nicky, and all the amazing characters on Green's Hill was definitely no hardship. Having read the first edition of this book many years ago I knew the storyline but that didn't make my excitement any less.
If you read my review for volume one then you'll understand that a vampire (not of their kiss or the Hill) did a really, really bad thing that goes against all of their rules. I couldn't tell you what it was then and I still can't tell you now because it's a huge spoiler. It is the reason that Cory, Bracken, Nicky, with some of their weres, fae, and vampires, have come to Redding in the god-awful one hundred degree weather. Cory has come to take care of the problem and decides it is as good a time as any to meet Nicky's parents. They drive down from Montana and bring what Nicky's mother thinks is a beautiful, young virgin to entice her son home. Trust me when I say none of that works out well, and definitely not for the girl who everyone wants to kill.
Oh the destruction Cory and family bring to some vampires in Redding who thought they could ignore their queen. It was a beautiful fight and I was so caught up in it that when it was over I was in a daze. The afterward, however, brought tears to my eyes. If that had been the only thing they had to deal with in this volume it would have been okay but when they get home from Redding they still have a pesky, nosy human to deal with when all they want is sleep and rest. Cory, though, has the worst job of them all to do and I sobbed with her.
It's been a joy and an honor to experience these four novels in the 'Little Goddess' series. However, much like when I finished the first edition of 'Rampant' so many years ago, I am sad because there's no fifth book to complete the story. Oh wait. Silly me. This time there IS! I just have to wait a bit for it. I can do that and even try to do it patiently because I've got to find out what happens, especially considering how this book ended.
Thank you, Amy, this was just as stunning and miraculous as the first time I read it. And a huge hug for adding that bit to the end. I think it completely intensified the emotional response and makes me hungrier than ever to see what's going to happen.
