Book Review

This was a fun, quirky, short read that blended werecoyotes, werewolves, witches bent on revenge, a battle of the bands pitting punk against goth, and a mission to save a bar.

I’ll begin with the paranormal aspect – Mixi and their band are camping out while waiting for a band showdown that will hopefully earn them $1000. They are up against a pack of werewolves and a band of witches amongst others. This kicks off the overall plot when Mixi finds out the venue has been closed due to health violations and is pending sale to an unknown developer.

The plot was well executed and kept the characters moving smartly along – they’ve got only a couple days to figure out who is behind the nefarious buyout of their beloved bar. Best part, this involves bewitched chickens.

The romantic aspect in this begins up a tree and develops from there. For a short story, I thought it was perfectly done with the right amount of angst, worry, sweetness, and romantic crushing.

This was perhaps one of the best short stories I’ve read in quite a while. For myself, the romance was perfect, I loved the whole paranormal aspect, the plot was interesting, and the punk/goth bands just made everything click. Recommended.
