Book Blurb

Hawaiian hula dancer Bobby Kikawa has deep fantasies about the alluring, mysterious Kimo Wilder, a gifted kahuna and kumu hula, a hula master. He becomes even more fixated after Kimo poses for an erotic painting called Phantom Lover. He plans to seduce Kimo even though the man is straight, married and known for his extreme loyalty to his wife.

Alone on a hot night after dance rehearsal on the big island of Hawaii, Bobby manages to persuade Kimo to let him service his neglected, extremely hungry passions. When the young dancer awakens a part of Kimo that nobody else ever has, Bobby both fears and welcomes the incredible power Kimo has over him. The legendary dancer inserts himself into Bobby’s life, but not everyone is happy about their burgeoning romance.

Things go from one extreme to another with interference from family and friends. Are the men prepared to sacrifice everything for each other? Their red-hot fling threatens not only Kimo’s marriage but Bobby’s sanity when he discovers Kimo is a “Keeper of Secrets” in the Hawaiian culture...a man born of fire and hidden, taboo, dark magic the ancient Hawaiians called Lua.

Book Review

The thought of two male hula dancers is pretty hot. The fact that this first installment in the 'Phantom Lover' series by A.J. Llewellyn is set in Hawaii and was going to involve sex, betrayal, romance, and magic had me hooked from the start. I've gotten to know this author's writing fairly well recently so I knew I was in for a very good tale. Pun intended.

Bobby, Lopaka, is a native Hawaiian, meaning he was born on the islands and grew up there, but he is half white and half Hawaiian. He is a hula dancer and has been training and learning since he was seven years old. Now, nineteen years later, he has been picked, along with seven others, to train and tour with Kimo, Hawaii's greatest hula dancer. For Bobby this is a dream come true because he thinks Kimo is the hottest guy around and Bobby wants a piece of that. Kimo is married, though, and straight as an arrow, as far as anyone can tell. Bobby figures it won't be a hardship to seduce Kimo while they're on location training and his wife is nowhere around.

What a seduction it is! Bobby and Kimo are certifiably smoking hot together. Even though Kimo can't seem to get enough of the sex, he humiliates and demeans Bobby during class trying to hide his guilt and shame. It doesn't take Kimo long, though, to figure out that he is happiest when he's with his lover, Bobby, and that the goddess Pele, herself, agrees. But, Kimo still wars with himself and breaks off any relationship with Bobby when the troupe flies home to Honolulu for their opening night ceremony. Bobby is devastated that Kimo no longer speaks to him and he tries to be patient and wait for Kimo to come back to him.

Kimo comes back to Bobby, his Lopaka, and everything is out in the open. Kimo's wife has her lover, Kimo has his, and everything seems to be fine. There is a lot of drama in this book, not just pertaining to Kimo and Bobby falling in love, but Bobby's best friend and her wife wanting Kimo's sperm so they can have a baby, Kimo wanting to try a threesome with Bobby and his ex, etc. I'll admit that there were a lot of times that I didn't like Kimo at all. I felt he was using Bobby and that Kimo wasn't having to give anything up for this relationship, whereas Bobby seemed to constantly be giving up pieces of his heart. Hmm.

I liked this story, although I didn't get a good connection with Kimo, I really liked Bobby. The descriptions of the places they were at on the islands were beautiful and I really enjoyed the Hawaiian history that the author wrote of. I am interested in reading the next book to see where Kimo and Bobby end up.
