Several months ago Thorne hired Riley as an escort. They fell hard for each other and ultimately made their relationship personal rather than professional. Every moment they spend in bed is pure bliss, but good sex can’t solve all their problems as they struggle to make things work between them. Thorne convinces Riley to move in with him, but their differences in age and income weigh more heavily on Riley once they share a home.
If that weren’t enough, culinary school is turning out to be a disappointment for Riley rather than a dream come true, and he’s considering the daunting prospect of starting his own business. Thorne wants to swoop in and fix everything, but Riley keeps refusing Thorne’s money or advice, feeling like he’s losing control over his own life.
Thorne and Riley will have to rely on their love for each other to help them find the balance between independence and entanglement.
"But how could it truly be theirs? It wasn’t like Thorne was letting him contribute to the mortgage, and even if he did, Riley’s measly payments wouldn’t make a dent in it. Riley suddenly felt miserable. Was this all a mistake?"
As much as I loved the first book in this series, I was really looking forward to 'Personal Entanglement'. The falling in love was rocky and worth every moment, but now comes the hard part. The living together, the insecurities and vulnerabilities that both men still carry, the trying to make this May/December relationship with completely different incomes work, and figuring out that sex doesn't always fix the issues. This is the story of real life.
Thorne has just convinced Riley to move in with him, and this is a huge step, for both of them. Thorne is very used to getting what he wants, he's impatient, demanding, and sometimes he can be a little ruthless about it. Riley is going to school full-time, and still trying to work with Susan in their very small, fledgling catering business. A lot of his time is taken up with schoolwork, exhaustion, and trying to decide whether staying in school is what he wants, or branching out into the small business world.
"Why was he so afraid to fully commit and let something be his? He had the life he’d always wanted—a real relationship, a home, a business—but now he was reluctant to accept it. It seemed too real, too much."
One of the biggest problems with real life is you want to make each other happy, and neither of you wants to do any serious communicating. You're still in the beginning rose covered glasses stage. Thorne has a lot of money, and he wants to use it to make Riley's dreams come true. Riley is fiercely independent, sometimes to his own detriment, and doesn't want to admit he needs or wants help. They're moving along, using little baby steps, and then Thorne in his impatience, and Riley in his stubbornness, almost lose it all.
A wonderful follow-up to Thorne and Riley's falling in love story! I really liked seeing how their relationship progressed, and whether two such strong personalities could ever learn to compromise and accept the other for who they are. Thank you, Silvia, I'm definitely looking forward to more, and I can wholeheartedly recommend this series.
