Linc Halberg needed to get his cucumbers preserved using the county extension office facilities. The agent Pol Backstrom and the new scientist Marc O'Neil have had their eye on Linc and his farm for some time. Suddenly, there's more going on in the back room than making a peck of pickles, and Linc's in a pickle of a different kind. Summer in their tiny town may never be the same.
First Edition published by Changeling Press, 2008.
A peck of pickles, apparently (and I admit that I had to look this one up) is “…an imperial and US customary unit of dry volume equivalent to 2 gallons…” – so, a lot. I can’t even imagine having to pickle that many cucumbers, but Linc is a farmer, and fairly used to large quantities. Except he needs the county extension office facilities to get it all done… and that is where this highly entertaining and super-hot story begins.
It seems that Linc is not the only man who has been looking forward to this pickling exercise – there are two other guys in his small town who can’t wait for him to turn up. Their intentions are pretty clear from the start – what with all the innuendo about the size of Linc’s… cucumbers… But Linc can’t believe he could be this lucky, so it takes him a little longer to trust that he is not dreaming up two hunky guys who are interested in him. And what deliciously naughty interest it is!
If you like your romances hot and spicy, if you enjoy watching three men go at it (and no, I don’t mean the pickling process), and if you’re looking for a read that is amusing, sweet, and very, very hot, then you will probably like this short story.
