Book Blurb

After a successful career as Illustrious Ruckus, three-time winner of the British Open, James Kirby has hung up his saddle. His experience as a horse in the eventing world doesn’t exactly translate to two legs, and he’s struggling to move on. James’s quiet days at the family farm with his sister, Matilda, are interrupted by Archie Ievins, a sports journalist visiting to interview Matilda and snap a few photos of Illustrious Ruckus. Archie quickly endears himself to the family and to “Ruckus,” and James falls head over hooves—only to be brought up short when his ex-boyfriend threatens to expose James’s secret. How can James start something new when he has four legs threatening to come out of the closet?

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2016 Daily Dose package “A Walk on the Wild Side”.

Book Review

I'm fairly certain I'm not the only girl who dreamed of owning her own horse. You can imagine my excitement when I realized one of the Daily Dose package stories involved a horse shifter no less! Not just some nag, either, but a championship eventer just entering his retirement with no clue as to what to do with himself anymore. Hell, James still has trouble figuring out how to spend long times on just two legs instead of four. I knew I was going to be completely enchanted by this installment.

James is really at a loss these days. He can't keep staying in his sister and brother-in-law's guest bedroom, which they kindly keep reminding him, but going to his lonely flat to figure out what he wants to do in retirement is extremely depressing. His sister, Matilda or Tilly, wasn't born with the shapeshifting gene, as it skips generations in their family, but Tilly has been the successful rider of Illustrious Ruckus all these years. James is not particularly thrilled, however, to discover that she's going to be featured in an article about what she'll be doing now in retirement. Of course, it's not as if James can reveal himself, so it's just another thing to put him in a black mood.

Archie and James hit it off in a resounding way even though they try to keep it professional so it doesn't seem as if Archie is favoring their farm in his article. James is also trying to deal with his ex who keeps sending notes with not-so-subtle innuendos that he will tell the world who James really is. Well, I sure didn't see that ending coming. Great job!

A delightful addition that I greatly enjoyed.
