Book Blurb

When they finally find love, can it survive the scrutiny?

Vincent’s days at work are spent admiring a hot hunk of man flesh named Jason. Unfortunately, Jason is straight—or so Vincent believes. When Jason asks Vincent out to a sporting event, he confesses he’s interested, and Vince has no problem exploring these feelings with Jason. After a night of passion, they decide they’ve held back their true feelings for too long and want to try a committed relationship.

Just as things start to work for them, their boss finds out that they’re gay. He turns them in for on-the-clock PDA and tells their co-workers. Can Vincent and Jason’s relationship hold up against that kind of hatred?

Book Review

The idea that "nothing can stop you" when you're in love may sound good in theory, but since it is based entirely in emotion, the reality can look quite different. Vincent and Jason in this story are two very young guys who discover both the truth behind that statement, and the fact they need more than just this "feeling" if they want to stand up to the taunting and teasing from their colleagues once they're found out. The back-and-forth between elation that they've found each other and the despair when everything doesn't go quite as they thought was a little nerve-racking to read about, but, considering their age and lack of maturity, probably quite close to what might actually happen.

Vincent has known he is gay for a few years. He isn’t out at work, but then, everyone there is straight – or so he thinks. The man he has a secret crush on, Jason, surprises him one day by showing an interest, and Vincent couldn't be happier. He immediately wants a committed relationship, and jumps into the whole settling down idea surprisingly quickly. I think part of that may be due to him missing a family and someone who understands him and whom he can trust. The other part is because that is who Vincent is: exuberant, emotionally driven, and willing to jump in with both feet without thinking too much.

Jason is not so easy to understand. Partially that is because Vincent tells the story, so I didn't see things from Jason's point of view. But the other part why he was less accessible to me was because he is on a roller coaster of discovery about himself and his colleagues that doesn’t make it easy for him to know what to do. He has suspected he may be gay for a while, and when he takes things forward with Vincent, that is confirmed. Now he suddenly has to deal with his colleagues knowing and despising him for it, as well as his boss threatening to fire him.

If you like reading about very young men trying to find out what's important in life, if you enjoy stories about relationships under threat of ridicule and derision, and if you're looking for a cute read with some tentative yet hot physical explorations, then you will probably like this short story.
